I haven't made my pick yet (I have some Hunter, Huckabee, and, yes, even some Paul-esque leanings) ... but I think it's fair to say that Fred would be the most conservative GOP nominee since Reagan.
And if the Internet had been around in Reagan's day, we'd be reading these kind of articles about him, too.
Ping to posts #107 and #122 regarding the establishment of a “Fred Thompson Truth File”.
BTW, Even with his ‘Federalist’ stance, the National Right to Life and other Pro-Life organizations have given him a 100% score and NARAL has given him a 0%.
Also, you should really judge based on his actual record (including votes):
Roe v. Wade was bad law and bad science. (Jun 2007)
Appoint strict constructionist judges. (Jun 2007)
Has never been pro-choice despite 1994 news reports. (Jun 2007)
Voted YES on maintaining ban on Military Base Abortions. (Jun 2000)
Voted YES on banning partial birth abortions. (Oct 1999)
Voted YES on banning human cloning. (Feb 1998)

Backtracked?
Perhaps he should have projected the grass-roots stifling consequences of the thing BEFORE casting his vote. Or, better yet, taken the lead in OPPOSING it and, big as he is, twisting enough arms to get it defeated.
Done.
No he doesn’t... this is a COMPLETE misrepresentation of Fred’s position, shamefully so!
Fred wants Roe vs. Wade overturned on the basis of faulty law, rightfully so.
That alone would return the issue of abortion to the states, no longer would it be a “constitutionally protected right”.
Fred has stated his anti-abortion stance repeatedly. He has NEVER stated that he wanted the states to authorize abortion, as your wrongly assert here.
This is exactly the kind of crap that should not be tolerated on any conservative blog! You are a liar my friend...
You should not be allowed to post here. Conservatives are NOT interested in lies!
You too.
Oh now come one, don’t confuse us with facts...
If you say so...
Abortion is like slavery in 1860.
There is nothing in the Constitution that makes abortion legal or illegal, hence, from a purely constitutional perspective, its a state issue. From a moral perspective, like slavery, it should be everybody’s issue. Absent another civil war, only a Constitutional Amendment or slow death by legislative stragulation and popular education, can kill it.
EV! Now there you go again.
Post, please, where FDT has said he supports state laws allowing abortions to continue. You can’t because what he said was that abortion laws, like the death penalty, should have never been a Federal issue and should have been left up to the states. He, like the rest of us possessed of more than 2 brain cells, knows that most state legislatures would ban abortion in an instant, given the chance.
Now get out of the sun, son. The heat has obviously addled ya.
My representation of Thompson’s position is explicitly accurate.
According to the Reagan Diaries, Viguerie complained Reagan wasn’t conservative enough on a regular basis.
1% of conservatives agree with you....
John Bolton is also a CFR member. Doesn’t seem like a globalist there, either.
“And thats bad because...?”
I’m not saying it’s bad. What I’m saying is that not everyone we need votes from ,undoubtedly most, are not “hardcore conservatives”. This article seems argued from the position that they are.
Either that or he is arguing for imposing the will of the few on the masses. Either way, not very impressive.
I believe Roe should be overturned so states can start outlawing abortion.
You can only get an anti-abortion Constitutional amendment if 3/4s of the states ratify such. Therefore, there first has to be significant movement by a large number of states to outlaw abortion for such an amendment to pass.
If you think you can outrun CFR, you don’t know much about CFR...
...followed by shouts of “Free Barabbas!”
