Romney Rising
Indeed. Like a great cloud of hot, stinky gas, Romney is rising. Let us hope that he rises, rises, and disperses. Once the air is clear we can discuss the serious candidates.

He’s been very vocal on it, no amnesty and enforce existing laws.

Right, Grig. We know he already took tough actions on enforcement in Massachusetts -- here are some of his statements on the issue:

Governor Romney: "I strongly oppose today's bill going through the Senate. It is the wrong approach. Any legislation that allows illegal immigrants to stay in the country indefinitely, as the new 'Z-Visa' does, is a form of amnesty. That is unfair to the millions of people who have applied to legally immigrate to the U.S." "Today's Senate agreement falls short of the actions needed to both solve our country's illegal immigration problem and also strengthen our legal immigration system. Border security and a reliable employment verification system must be our first priority." (Governor Mitt Romney On The Senate Immigration Agreement, May 17, 2007)

Governor Romney: "The immigration bill failed because the politicians in Washington are out of touch with the American people. The voice of the people is loud and clear - secure the border, enforce the law and no special deal for permanent residency or citizenship for illegals. America will always welcome legal immigration, but as a nation we also insist on the rule of law." (Governor Romney On Today's Senate Immigration Vote, June 28, 2007)

Romney's Position Today:
Thank you, Random Romney Supporter. Why, that doesn't sound scripted or contrived at all. No. Not in the least. It doesn't at all seem like freepublic is getting consistently spammed by Romney operatives. You may now return to your task of copy-pasting Romney campaign literature to our discussions.

If Bloomberg wins then I think Mitt would stand a good chance. I actually think Mitt is the best person for the job.

I still think that Rudy is the only one that can beat Hilary head to head.

I can’t get to excited about Thompson who is just another trial lawyer, lobbist. No telling how much dirt they will dig up on him. The only way Thompson could win is if Bloomberg runs.

It’s going to be a long summer, unless Fred ever decides to jump in. None of the stories say anything new, and it looks like Mitt is going to keep campaigning hard in Iowa to win the straw poll. The media will discount his win because Rudy and McCain gave up, and then we will have to wait for the fall debates for anything to change. In the meantime, we can be entertained by those obsessed with Mitt not being the R candidate.

WOSG: yes, there was a recent thread on this where Romney appered to come all out in favor of amnesty. A few Mitt supporters here cautioned me that he was “misquoted” or was a victim of MSM bias. FWIW, I did not see such a bias in that specific article as it consisted almost entirely of Romney’s quotes on amnesty and illegals.

Yes, please continue to ignore his actual record on immigration and the recent youtube videos in his own words in favor of basing your decision on some article written by the MSM stringing together alleged quotes. Good idea. /sarc

Do you have ANY proof that these are “alleged” quotes? If they are so imaginary, pray, why hasn’t the Mitt Romney campaign protested against such blatant misrepresentation? I seem to have missed the Romney camp’s justifiable objections to this “made-up” story.

Frankly, I couldn’t give a rip what a Catholic hating Canadian thinks about our presidential candidates.

But a literary critic! Now that is a whole other issue!

It won’t be long before ol’ Fred is hawking Viagra or explaing how he has a “growing problem” not a “going problem”.

Go Mitt, Go!
