"No idea," he replied in French with a bad-tempered shrug - even though he knew the nearest Starbucks coffee shop was only 50m away.

Haughty indifference to tourists is as Parisian as the Louvre, yet tourist officials are hoping to eliminate that attitude, if only for one day.

About the only industry they have left is tourism, and the frogs can’t even manage that.

Screw the French!

They have been on BOYCOTT status for quite some time now.

I have recently traveled to Paris as a tourist and studied there in my college days. I have witnessed many times American tourists behaving like total idiots. The French are proud of their language and culture and all too often US tourists show no respect. I’m sure we would not be too cordial if a French tourist in the US behaved like an idiot, cussed us for not speaking his language and heaped contempt on our culture and traditions. If you speak even a little of their language and have some understanding of their culture the French can be very friendly.

If the French only came in 52 out of 60 for being rude, that means that others are ruder. I wonder who they might be. Some S. Americans, perhaps? Uruguay, Paraguay, Argentina?

No way in hell that’s going to happen. But it’s good for a laugh.

I visited St Avold. The French treated me and my fellow Airmen very decently. It was for a Memorial Day ceremony.

Wait, wait: you’re saying that a well-known and well-documented history of haughtiness, arrogance and rudeness can, by and large, be attributed to the bad behavior of tourists?! Is that what you’re implying?

When the Germans left Paris in ‘44, they stole all the politeness. It’s all buried in a bunker beneath Frankfurt.

Let me explain your experience in NY.

The people robbed, lied and cheated you while acting indifferent where the average New Yorkers. The people who rob, lie, and cheat while acting hostile are the criminals.

Yeah, I thought that was strange too. I mean, they are being “asked” to be polite. How embarrassing is that?

Two things I can always count on: America bashing on a certain DUmmies site (not that I go there often) and France bashing on FR. Sometimes I think that if the Islamists nuked France there would be a large percentage of people here who would cheer the fact, just like many DUmmies would celebrate another 9/11 attack. The Rude Frenchman is real but so is the Ugly American.
