In a bombshell development, WRKO-AM radio host Howie Carr is jumping ship to rival station WTKK-FM, where hell take over the prized 5:30 to 9:00 morning-drive slot.
Carrs move to Greater Medias WTKK pits him against disgraced, ex-House Speaker Tom Finneran, Carrs longtime nemesis. Finnerans morning-drive show on the Entercom-owned WRKO has bombed since he got behind the mike earlier this year.

I’m more likely to be able to listen in the morning, and the FM signal is better.
Yet I liked the afternoon show because he’d be there to comment on the events of the day at the end of the day. I’m afraid a morning show won’t have as much punch.
The wheels just came off WRKO.
We just got him back here from 4-7 p.m. on AM620 WVMT in ultra-liberal Vermont. We need a voice to counter the nonstop liberal propaganda. Now he is leaving us again. What a disappointment.

Quite an interesting development, to be sure. I’m glad he’s done with the moonbats of WRKO.
Good luck, Howie!
WRKO is the station that carries Rush before Howie’s show. If this indeed hurts WRKO as much as is being claimed, one wonders if El Rushbo will no longer be carried on the station. It’s unlikely, but it’s still a possibility. The thing is, there’s really nowhere for Rush to go if WRKO drops him.
However, all the articles talk about Howie going up against Tom Finneran. What they don’t mention is The Dennis and Callahan Show on the sports station WEEI. They talk sports, sure, but also devote lots of airtime to current issues. Howie may have a tougher time breaking in to the morning than he thinks. The D & C audience is very loyal.
The thing is that there was talk of D & C moving to WTKK to replace the departed Imus. Now it looks like they’re staying put and the battle for morning talk will be between D & C and Howie, since Finneran is virtually unlistenable. WBZ is an all-news station that doesn’t take callers, so they really can’t be considered for this.
We shall see how it all shakes out!
Rush could conceivably go to the weak-signalled WTTT 1150
or maybe WTKK via tape delay...agreed on the rest of your post.
There was also a faint possibility that Clear Channel
could make 1200 a conservative talk station. They were
Air America until last Dec. when they went to “Rumba”
Spanish, and a power increase/tower move is due soon.
Clear Channel is affiliated with Premiere, which
syndicates Rush, Drudge, Noory, Fox Sports Radio,
Dr. Laura, Glenn Beck, etc.

The Spanish-language stuff did not show up in the
ratings (at least 12-plus, though 25-54s are
more important—I don’t know how it did in that demo).
