Spokesman Mark Corallo adamantly denied that Thompson worked for the family-planning group. "Fred Thompson did not lobby for this group, period," he said in an e-mail.
In a telephone interview, he added: "There's no documents to prove it, there's no billing records, and Thompson says he has no recollection of it, says it didn't happen."
In a separate interview, John Sununu, the White House official whom Thompson was hired to contact, said he had no memory of any lobbying and doubted it took place.
Sununu said in a telephone interview: "I don't recall him ever lobbying me on that at all. I don't think that ever happened. In fact, I know that never happened."
At the time, Thompson was a lobbyist and lawyer "of counsel" to Arent Fox Kintner Plotkin & Kahn, a Washington firm. DeSarno said the family-planning association paid the firm for Thompson's work. Marc Fleischaker, the chairman of Arent Fox, declined to comment.
In a videotaped message to the National Right To Life Convention in Kansas City in June, Thompson said the group's issues were "ever more profound to me as the years go by."
A senator from December 1994 to January 2003, Thompson voted along anti-abortion lines, but his statements occasionally have raised questions about his commitment to the cause.
In recent weeks, Thompson has described himself as fundamentally "pro-life," saying the issue has "meant a little more to me" since he viewed the sonogram of his now-3-year-old daughter.
Best known for playing a district attorney on NBC's Law & Order, Thompson worked as a lobbyist over nearly three decades, both before and after his Senate term.

“I do not support Brownbacks position on immigration. I didnt/still dont support Bushs position on immigration either.”
I don’t support Thompson’s position on it either.
Youre going to have to, in some way, work out a deal where they can have some aspirations of citizenship. Fred Thompson, 2006
He’s also wobbly on Iraq... speaking plainly, Brownback offers nothing as a presidential candidate in 2008.
I agree. Nor do I support Thompson’s position on campaign finance even though he has backed off of full support for CFR.
That's fine that you say that as long as you remember that he is still an excellent Senator. It won't help a lot to get Thomposn in the WH if we must destroy the good conservative Senators and Congressmen along the way.
My three choices were mine alone. Just be glad if you saw your guy on my list. That means I'm willing to support him.
It seems that if Fred Thompson was not at that time employed by Arent,Fox, et al, or if there is no paper trail of supporting data, this entire matter turns into a load of shit thrown into the candidate most closely supported by the accusers, fan.
If their claims are supported by appropriate data, etc., well I guess the fan will be turned around and faced at Fred, who will be very sullied by the breezes generated.
Old news, move on....
Dan Rather is typing up the billing records in his basement right now.
Brownback voted FOR the amnesty bill, then after seeing how the vote was going against it, changed his vote in the last minutes.
Not exactly presidential material, nor senatorial for that matter.
I know what he did and it wasn’t good. I still say he would make a fine President. Name me a candidate who hasn’t done something stupid or voted wrong at least once. I am not going to dismiss Brownback’s excellent conservative record over one stupid impulsive mistake, especially when the mistake was in my favor.
The mistake was voting with the likes of Graham, Specter and Hagel in the first place. The switcheroo was just plain bad.
Of course people make mistakes and pull bone-head stunts. But Brownback’s initial vote indicates he’s just as out of touch with the thinking and wishes of the American public as many other beltway politicians are.
It’s an academic question however, as Brownback won’t get the nomination.
I would vote for him for President without hesitation. You don’t have to. Just remember that he is one of the most conservative Senators we have right now. May he live long and prosper in politics.
Hopefully it was just a bad stumble. We do need to keep the senate seat and my native state has already elected a dimbulb RAT governor who’s demonstrated she’s fully capable of exploiting a tragedy for her own political party.
Actually, my husband and I were looking at Sam and the nomination several months ago. but IIRC there was another gaffe or stumble or vote from Sam that turned us off a bit.
I’m not able to remember specifics right now though.
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus
they’re already trying to claim he worked for Aristide too.
I WONDER why we never see articles like this regarding ROSE LAW FIRM clients?
