Mucus and phlegm sort of have an ‘in-situ’ context to them. I’m not really sure what word you’d want to give a newscaster to accurately convey the concept... may ‘expectorant’?

Seriously, how can a newsreader object to any words she’s supposed to read? Did she get “sputum” confused with “semen”? Given Katy's prior exposure. . .an surprised with her discomfort here; but would bet she has no such distaste for semen.

I have to be a bit skeptical over the story, or the severity of the incident.Couric commented on this incident herself, in this very long article. (see page 7 and 8 of article for her comment) The whole article is worth the read, just to learn a little about how she thinks .

Expectorant is a more gentle word. I was trying to come up with a less graphic word for the stuff when I posted, but this is Katie Colic/Commie. She’s supposed to be a grown up professional reporting on TB. TB grosses me out faster than sputum does...
