The Most Popular Governor Alaska's Sarah Palin is the GOP's newest star. by Fred Barnes 07/16/2007, Volume 012, Issue 41
Juneau The wipeout in the 2006 election left Republicans in such a state of dejection that they've overlooked the one shining victory in which a Republican star was born. The triumph came in Alaska where Sarah Palin, a politician of eye-popping integrity, was elected governor. She is now the most popular governor in America, with an approval rating in the 90s, and probably the most popular public official in any state.
Her rise is a great (and rare) story of how adherence to principle--especially to transparency and accountability in government--can produce political success. And by the way, Palin is a conservative who only last month vetoed 13 percent of the state's proposed budget for capital projects. The cuts, the Anchorage Daily News said, "may be the biggest single-year line-item veto total in state history."
As recently as last year, Palin (pronounced pale-in) was a political outcast. She resigned in January 2004 as head of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission after complaining to the office of Governor Frank Murkowski and to state Attorney General Gregg Renkes about ethical violations by another commissioner, Randy Ruedrich, who was also Republican state chairman.
State law barred Palin from speaking out publicly about ethical violations and corruption. But she was vindicated later in 2004 when Ruedrich, who'd been reconfirmed as state chairman, agreed to pay a $12,000 fine for breaking state ethics laws. She became a hero in the eyes of the public and the press, and the bane of Republican leaders.

“Two lovely women.” - rawhide
Among other things, lovely is as lovely chooses to be. For her part, Mrs. Bush is 1) pro-choice and 2) hefty.
P.S. If you wish to dispute either point 1) or point 2), feel free to google.
I don’t know, but I doubt it.
Well, in her case, the inner ugliness came shining through later on...
I do not believe that any of the Palin children are adopted...the resemblance you see probably has to do with the fact that Todd Palin (Alaska’s “first dude”) is part Yupik Eskimo (and hence so are the kids).

Nice to know that you think my blog is “cool”...thanks for the plug!
The Gov vetoed about 1/4 billion of a $2 billion budget. It won’t matter in about three years when the budget will be in the red no matter what without taxes, probably a State income tax.
Thanks
Nice; maybe the next Margaret Thatcher?.. who knows, I hope she stays ‘solid’ and I hope she’s a Christian!
Would she be a feasible candidate for the U.S. Senate next year, or would leaving her office in mid-term undermine such a candidacy?
She is smart, unafraid to say she is pro-life, and inti-gay marriage. She has given this state a break from the good-old boys club with clear honest open government and conservativism. I know several democrats that grudgingly say she is doing a good job. Have no fear.
Alaska. Different rules.
And she’s HOT too... Republican, no RINO, AND HOT..
It would undermine it. She’s interested in reforming the state government. There are others that can rise to challenge Stevens and Young, specifically fmr. Lt. Gov. Loren Leman.
I’m no Sara fan, her recent pork for milk stand shows she is a ‘good old boy’, just for a different group.
IF she can land a working gas pipeline - very doubtful at this stage, then good for her.
The mailman probably is part Eskimo too.
Gov Mother Hen is doing fine so far. Granted her Admin is headed for disaster but that is built-in. As far as Governors go, she is about typical.
Fred Barnes is horrible on immigration. Just thought I’d point that out.
But anyway, this is a pretty good article, though Barnes is wrong to say that Palin’s victory was the lone bright spot for Republicans last year. At least as impressive (and probably more so) was the survival of Minnesota governor Tim Pawlenty. The landslide victory of the Democrat for the open Senate seat in Minnesota made Pawlenty’s victory even more surprising and remarkable.
So it seems there may be two rising stars to emerge out of 2006. Palin would probably make a good Senator some day, and maybe even a Presidential or VP candidate. Pawlenty should be considered for the VP slot next year if there is any chance he can deliver his battleground state.
