I noted that all sunni groups in Iraq are not allied with al Qaeda - and those that are, most are only in a temporary alliance based on achieving select common goals (the enemy of my enemy is my friend ... when our common enemy is defeated, then my friend becomes my eneny)
al Qaeda does not need “the support” of all sunni groups In Iraq- only dominance over them
al Qaeda does not need “the support” of the rest of the world to establish islam over all the earth- only dominance
You may think that’s unrealistic, but al Qaeda has never been quoted for being pessimistic about the LONG TERM outcome of their struggle
To this day, Al-Qaeda has not been able to take over any country.
Even during the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan, the Muhjahadeen ,which was affiliated with Al-Qaeda, needed US help to get the Soviets out.
Without US help, Al-Qaeda to this day would still be fighting the Soviets in Afghanistan
Even during the height of Al-Qaeda’s power, they were merely guests to the Taliban in Afghanistan and today, in the tribal regions of Pakistan, they still remain guests of the Taliban.
In the latest Al-Qaeda video, Zahwahiri clearly stated that muslim unity is important; those very sentiments are very much in line with the history of disunity among muslims since the seventh century AD.
Al-Qaeda is not making progress either with the Tribal leaders in the Anbar provine or the Saddamists who are now being equipped by America to fight Al-Qaeda.
If you can point to any real progress made by Al-Qaeda, please let me know, but the future looks pretty grim for Al-Qaeda
