Counting on Failure, Energy Chairman Floats Carbon Tax
WASHINGTON, July 6 A powerful House Democrat said on Friday that he planned to propose a steep new carbon tax that would raise the cost of burning oil, gas and coal, in a move that could shake up the political debate on global warming.
The proposal came from Representative John D. Dingell of Michigan, chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, and it runs directly counter to the view of most Democrats that any tax on energy would be a politically disastrous approach to slowing global warming.
But Mr. Dingell, in an interview to be broadcast Sunday on C-Span, suggested that his goal was to show that Americans are not willing to face the real cost of reducing carbon dioxide emissions. His message appeared to be that Democratic leaders were setting unrealistic legislative goals.

Great way of thinking and solving problems — tax it! /s
Two things you gotta know about John D. Dingell:
1. He’s tough. Like Charlie Rangel, you need to bring your lunch if you wanna debate him. You underestimate him at your own considerable risk.
2. He’s a Michigan Dem. What this means is that he’ll be a liberal Dem, until something comes along that endangers the American auto companies. At that point, you’ll see all Michigan Dems come together and fight things like CAFE standards, etc.
If you read the article, Dingell is proposing the tax so it can be held up to derision. This is kinda like the GOP’s vote in the House a couple of years back on the “cut and run” proposal of the Dems.
Excellent! Go ahead Dingell, remind everyone in the year leading up to Presidential elections, how Democrats can’t see a problem (real or imagined) without figuring out a way to increase taxes!
They can shove that carbon tax. All it does is rip off money from people who cannot afford it. Typical Rat Solution!
but with the queen and this congress it may pass
It takes a RAT from Michigan to come up with a way of destroying his Detriot based auto industry by proposing a stupid tax in support of ManBoyPig’s fear mongering!
You mean Americans who are using *way more than their fair share* like Al Gore and his family, Mr. Dingell??
Hold on to your wallets, ladies and gentlemen. The Democrats are coming...and they’re going to take things away from you for “the common good”.
“. . . it runs directly counter to the view of most Democrats that any tax on energy would be a politically disastrous approach . . .”
Which is why I’m 100% behind it.
Go Dingell, go!
If it’s a tax, the RATS love it.

Derision to what? He is proposing a tax on something that every American uses. This is not quite the same analogy as Republicans wanting to put Democraps on record as the chicken-sh!t cowards they are. This is wanting to put Senators on record who wants to impose more taxes! This would be the kiss of death in 08 if enough Democraps supported it!
Higher taxes are a non starter with a GOP president. But if the Democrats get the White House in 08, watch out. The taxes will go up for everyone.
