Bush rips Democratic lawmakers' failures

By JENNIFER LOVEN, Associated Press Writer 19 minutes ago

President Bush accused Democratic lawmakers on Saturday of being unable to live up to their duties, citing Congress' inability to pass legislation to fund the federal government.

"Democrats are failing in their responsibility to make tough decisions and spend the people's money wisely," Bush said in his weekly radio address. "This moment is a test."

The White House has said the failure of a broad immigration overhaul was proof that Democratic-controlled Capitol Hill cannot take on major issues. "We saw this with immigration, and we're seeing it with some other issues where Congress is having an inability to take on major challenges," said spokesman Tony Fratto.

The main reason the immigration measure died, however, was staunch opposition from Bush's own base — conservatives. The president could not turn around members of his own party despite weeks of intense effort.

The immigration bill was the top item on Bush's domestic agenda. With its demise, Bush was left to focus on the annual appropriations process and reining in federal spending.

Twelve annual spending bills dole out approximately one-third of the federal budget. They must be passed each year by Congress, before the Oct. 1 start of the new fiscal year, but lawmakers began considering this year's batch just in mid-June. The House has passed half and the full Senate has not yet taken up any.

"Democrats have a chance to prove they are for open and transparent government by working to complete each spending bill independently and on time," Bush said. "I urge Democrats in Congress to step forward now and pass these bills one at a time. "

My very next sentence after the one you quoted was: The money just doesn't show up

. Your are presupposing that the Feds (who have shown no ability to follow through with enforcing immigration laws to date) will actually cut off those funds. In your perfect world perhaps. But, then, you don't have to fight with the traitors in Congress either. You apparently have more faith in Congress on follow through than the rest of American.

Yes, I saw some of that going on. I don’t see their leaving as a particular negative though.

Yes, he has enacted policies which are being followed

Correct. So your assertion that NO ONE is following him is incorrect.

Of course it was hyperbole. There will always be someone who follows anyone. You're quite good at reading the first sentence of posts.

You just didn’t see it. I made at least a half dozen posts, on this topic, starting before the 2004 election! I’ll repeat it again - the 2 major passions of Bush is the WOT and immigration reform.

Nostradamus: So, you predicted Bush would use harsher rhetoric against conservative opponents of amnesty than he ever used against liberals who’ve been out to destroy him from day one? Color me dubious.

I also wasn’t aware that many have left FR. I just think if the seasoned citizens of FR don’t want anyone new to post, they should just request that registration be closed to keep FR “pure”.

Your statement is pretty obnoxious.

Here, educate yourself.

You sure read alot into what I said. My source is a childhood friend (we grew up in DC suburbs) who worked in the Reagan administration. He's now is a successful, conservative lobbyist with offices exactly 1 block from the White House, 1700 Pennsylvania Ave. I looked him up on one of my trips back East and we had a short visit. He was my source for the 2 Bush passions, and he also said Bush "is a work in progress." I distinctly sensed he wasn't thrilled.

I'm no soothsayer and I did report this chat several times on FR.

Yes, factually incorrect.

Hyperbole is, by definition, factually incorrect. It is designed to make a point by being "over-the-top" on purpose. Apparently, you cannot recognize basic communication techniques while ignoring rather plain statements (see "leadership requires more than enacting policies") that make cohesive points you'd rather ignore.

Well I can guarantee you that I will support Bush on NOTHING and I mean nothing until he leaves office. I want him totally destroyed politically and rendered Nuetered.

He has totally betrayed this country, the people, and conservatives. His push to be president of Mexico instead of America showed his true colors. I am done with him. I voted for him twice and was appalled that he called me a bigot because I was against his pet plan to surrender control of the border. He is now my enemy. I will never trust a member of the Bush family ever again.

Bush the man who looks out at American and sees a need for even more Mexicans (ie: his support for a new guest worker plan). Sorry if this pisses some of you off, but wake up and smell what Bush is shoveling and it ain’t coffee.

He did also campaign on reforming Social Security. If he'd put 1/100th of the effort into that issue that he has invested in "No Mexican Left Behind," I'd have a little more respect for him.

Needs repeating

Any cities that support illegals will have all federal monies withheld. See how long they hold out. All it takes is willpower.

Which proves the point! If the law is already NOT being enforced, then any new enforcement law bundled in the illegal alien support act of 2007 would also not be enforced. We would however, end up giving amnesty to 50 million people who really don't give a damn about America but what they can get.

No fence would be built, more money will be spent on these "new" immigrants (gag), and the illegals would still pour into the country.

If we can GIVE Africa $30 billion for AIDS, then we can budget the same for a fence to protect America. I'm sick of hearing "where is the money going to come from"?

Same place the Africa AIDS money came from. Better yet, skip Africa and spend that $30 billion here.
