CAMP MABRY, Texas – The Texas Army National Guard has recruited 3,478 new Soldiers so far this fiscal year, needing only nine months to surpass the year-end goal of 3,300 set by the National Guard Bureau.

“It’s terrific that we have already achieved our year-end recruiting goals,” Lt.  Gen. Rodriguez Adjutant General of the Texas Military Forces said. “Most importantly, we have met this quantitative goal while ensuring a very high quality of Soldier accessions.  The Texas National Guard maintains very high standards and strictly enforced enlistment criteria.”

Lt. Col. Ron McLaurin, Commander for Recruiting and Retention for the Texas Army National Guard added, “The Texas Army National Guard understands its commitment to ensuring that we have enough Soldiers to support future missions.  It is imperative that we continue to seek out the highest quality individuals.”  Col.  McLaurin’s point is emphasized by the Guard Soldiers responding to recent flooding across Texas.

“The Texas Army National Guard continues to grow in numbers and diversity, consistent with the demographics of our Great State,” Lt. Gen. Rodriguez said.  “Our numbers grow because our citizens step up to volunteer, expanding our family of Citizen-Soldiers in a tradition of that dates back to 1636.  Our impressive recruiting results could not have been achieved without the integrity and hard work of our excellent statewide recruiting team.”

The Texas Army National Guard plans to exceed 18,900 Soldiers by the end of the year.
