Thank you so much for the ping. It is nice to hear from Casey’s father how proud he was of him. You sure don’t hear that from Sheshrew!!

He was an adult, making his own decisions..." This is why his mother's actions are so disrespectful to her son. Her actions attack his status as an adult, his intelligence, and his independence. His father "get's it".

Thanks MountainFlower.
One problematic aspect of Cindy Sheehan's celebrity has been that her deceased son got lost in the news coverage. Nobody knows much about how Casey Sheehan lived or how he died... Casey Sheehan so loved his Catholic faith that he considered the priesthood, before realizing how much he wanted to be a father himself... As a teen, he earned the rank of Eagle Scout. Later he would quip that the military was "kind of like Boy Scouts, but with guns." Casey Sheehan signed up before the Sept. 11 attacks. His service had nothing to do with revenge, his father says... Casey Sheehan wanted to be a chaplain's assistant. Faced with a wait to become one, he chose to be a wheel mechanic instead. As a soldier, he was always the first to greet a visiting priest. If no priest came to say mass, he would lead a prayer... "For all of my children, Casey, Carly, Andy and Jane, I am attempting to move forward with a little grace and dignity. They deserve nothing less."

How did I get on this ping list?
Please remove my name.
Nothing personal - so many threads, so little time!

This was great. Thanks for posting it.
As much as I detest Cindy Sheehan and all she stands for, I feel pity for her at some level because she is being used as a tool by people who are adept at using the misery of others as a tool.
She just has no idea and has taken it hook, line and sinker.
God rest the soul of her son, and help his father find peace and come to terms with his loss. It sounds like he is on the right road.

Paul Harvey Jr. would also quote the current death toll in Iraq.
He’s disgraced his father’s name.

We used to say that the difference between the Boy Scouts and the Army is that the Boy Scouts have adult supervision! LOL

Philosophically, they are close on their views about the war. But I would rather that Casey be viewed with dignity, he told me.Interesting. Sounds like he could be against the war, too, but doesn't want to sully Casey's memory by using him as a stick with which to beat the Bush administration for prosecuting it.

Heh... I’ve never been in the armed forces (hey, maybe I should write a firsthand account for “The New Republic”), but was in the Scouts, and I was sometimes not too sure about the supervision. ;’) Great joke!
