Well I suppose liquor and porn profits won’t harm his Mormon standing. But alcohol isn’t even remotely like porn unless you’re noticing the destructive work of both in human families.

P&V writes: “So wait, your telling me this guy has strong beliefs but chooses NOT to force those beliefs on others? Why that’s just unAmerican...”

Actually, his track record indicates he has no strong beliefs. He strongly “believes” whichever side of an issue his finger in the wind tells him might get him elected, which obviously changes from one election to the next (abortion, homosexual issues, guns, etc.)

Further, choosing not to SELL hardcore X-rated porn would not constitute “forcing” anything on anybody.

As a member of the board, his job is to do whatever he can within the law to MAKE THE COMPANY MONEY...not to make decisions that takes money away from the company.

...and didn’t you post the same article a few days ago?

If this is the worst they can say about him Romney will be our next President. This is just lame.

big frickin’ deal. I’m not even a particular supporter of Romney (Run, Fred, Run!) but this seems to be an incredible stretch.

By your standards, Strawberry, Mitt should have encouraged Marriott to operate prostitution services in all their properties in Nevada, scheduled and billed through the front desk.

And no, seeing as how the Focus on the Family story wasn’t aired or posted online until today, I didn’t post the same story a few days ago.

Family News in Focus (today):

Christian Broadcasting Network (Tuesday):

http://www.cbn.com/CBNnews/188311.aspx

I did post another story on the same subject. I suspect there’ll be more in the days ahead. I’ll be sure to keep you well-posted as they emerge.

Yeah, and I stayed at a Marriott once and the ice machine was out on the floor my room was on. What did Romney do about it? Nothing. He is clearly not up to being president if he can’t even get an ice machine repaired. /s

And the fact that Mormon doctrine is VERY much against alcohol consumption and even having dealings with alcohol.

Then again - Catholic doctrine is very much against abortion, yet look at how many "Catholic" politicians directly support abortion... So I guess it's all the same...

Unless he personally instituted the PPV project, defended it, or attacked other hotel chains for XXX pay-per-view, there's no hypocrisy here.

Mitt made a big deal about what a family-friendly anti-smut crusader he was for not putting his money in a Bain Capital investment in a movie company that made R-rated movies.

So he uses his opposition to R-rated movies in his campaign yet served on the board of a company (with a generous salary) that generates major profits (yes, it's a cash cow) from ppv pornography.

Yes, that is hypocrisy.

I don’t personally think it’s all the same ... abortion is deadly by design. Porn is a profit maker by exploiting the lowest level in people’s character. You can drink and use porn without killing any other person, but abortion kills by design. God doesn’t like any thing we do to harm others, and designing to make a profit through harming others is something you don’t want to question God on be you Mormon or Catholic. If a Catholic Priest were making money promoting porn, would that be okay?

I don’t care whether he is on the Board of Directors of Marriott, personally watched the movies, or starred in the films. This is a non-story.

Gee, so this means that each of us should scan all of the companies our financial consultants invest us in? Just in case one is involved in a hotel? Just in case one is involved in a hotel that allows prostitution? Just in case one has some dealing with countries we don’t like? Just in case there is a lawsuit against one claiming an impropriety?

Stretching a little far aren't we?

> By your standards, Strawberry, Mitt should have encouraged Marriott to operate prostitution services in all their properties in Nevada, scheduled and billed through the front desk <

A member of the board of directors has a fiduciary duty to the stockholders - to maximize their investment. To be the only hotel chain offering prostitution would have been a terrible public relations move and ruined the chain’s image for the sake of a handful of locations with negligible revenue on a chain-wide basis. Though I am sure there are some who avoid Marriott because they offer porn, that number if probably negligible and pales in comparison to the revenues generated. To have made the corporation less profitable due to his personal beliefs would violate his fiduciary duty. One can argue whether, as a matter of principle, he should have accepted the board post, but having done so he made a committment to Marriott shareholders.
