Rock group Arctic Monkeys have become the latest music industry stars to question whether the performers taking part in Live Earth on Saturday are suitable climate change activists.
"It's a bit patronising for us 21 year olds to try to start to change the world," said Arctic Monkeys drummer Matt Helders, explaining why the group is not on the bill at any of Al Gore's charity concerts.
"Especially when we're using enough power for 10 houses just for (stage) lighting. It'd be a bit hypocritical," he told AFP in an interview before a concert in Paris.
Bass player Nick O'Malley chimes in: "And we're always jetting off on aeroplanes!"

Robb highlights the good work being done by many artists.
British ska-rock group The Police and US funk-punk band Red Hot Chili Peppers are examples of "people who practice what they preach."
Meanwhile, nu-metal headliners Linkin Park have their own climate change charity and Hawaiian artist Jack Johnson tours in a biodiesel-fuelled bus.

‘These are popular musicians? They look like normal people to me.’
In Britain you don’t have to be beautiful to get on TV or be a popstar. We don’t mind plain or ugly as long as you’re good at your job. You should see a lot of the UK newsreaders and TV presenters - they wouldn’t be allowed on the studio lot in the US! :)
Here’s another person who gets it. Glad to have been a fan for 26 years.

Good concert but he got too political, and ranted about George Bush. Interesting to note that the most of the crowd seemed to have as much distaste for the politics as I did.
I don't think he got the reception he expected.
Amazing... these guys criticize the United States, but are willing to take the money.
Or, holding a symposium on "Global Warming" in the middle of a late spring blizzard....(he he)
For folks who haven’t heard this monumental band, the Arctic Monkeys, they suck.
They were Time Magazine’s top pick for best albums of the year ‘06 and I agree - they’re damn good.
That speaks well to British sensibilities, but I was thinking that nowadays most pop musicians feel obliged to present themselves as freaks of some kind, either in the way they look or the way they dress (or the way they act!). These guys just didn't look as if they fit the mold!
Record companies don’t buy the music or the tickets. Case in point: The Dixie Chicks.
I wonder what the carbon offset for getting all the crap for th Antarctica concert is in light of the fact that it’s the middle of the Antarctic winter there
The Who also balked at this media event (and they resented involvement in Michael Moore’s F911).
Didn’t Rog rage against England going to war against Nazi Germany too?
I think he lost his dad in The War and lost his marbles too.

MS-NBC’s bias is showing...
“How about if I put it this way: is it better that Hillary used your song in her campaign drive than, say, Rudy?”
That's why they had to come up with the creative concept of "carbon offsets." This way this can still travel around in their limousines and private jets, guilt-free in the knowledge that their servants supposedly planted a few trees somewhere.
Thank you!
If I want a well-informed opinion from somebody in a band, I'll ask him what brand guitar strings he prefers.
Pope Al Gore Jr. sells indulgences. You can “buy” your way to salvation and continue living a “sinful” life.

It seems there are quite a few rock stars who are sick of all this rubbish.
Oops, I meant www.rockstarsagainstliveearth.com
I’d forgotten that. Once a tin ear, always a tin ear.
Read how the Arctic Monkeys got big. They did it without being pushed by record labels or already big names. They were huge without so much as a record label. When they finally did sign and released an album it was the fastest selling debut in British music ever. Refreshingly they seem to be staying pretty grounded in the face of being fawned over.
Perhaps to provide larger targets for his terrorist buddies. You know, less people, good for Mother Gaia.
