National Mall Cleared For Fear of Tornados
WASHINGTON — U.S. Park Police evacuated thousands of people from the National Mall in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday afternoon, as severe weather interrupted July Fourth festivities.
Authorities used loudspeakers to ask Independence Day revelers to clear off the lawn and head to safer locations, including museums lining the National Mall, until further notice.
The National Weather Service has placed all of Maryland under a tornado watch until 10 p.m. ET. That means conditions are favorable for tornadoes and severe thunderstorms. A tornado warning was also issued for an area of Montgomery County, Md., a suburb of the city, and funnel clouds had been spotted in the county. A tornado was also reportedly spotted in Columbia, Md., part of the Metro D.C. area.

“Auntie Em... Auntie Em.... I saw Pelosi on a broom ...”
LOL :)
Crowds to be allowed back around 7:30 p.m. once rain, lightning have cleared out....The evacuated crowds will have to pass back through the checkpoints to get into the area...
per radio news..
Yikes, I have grandkids and DIL in Severna Park MD and good friends in Centreville.
Lousy, cloud seeding terrorists!
I gotta believe most won't bother, given the 8pm concert start time and the soaked turf.
hey gabz, we’re a-ok here! a short fierce storm blew through
about dinner time. we had all the prep ready tho, just in
case. completely clear, and muggy!, here now. the watch is
up for a few more hours so who knows.
our oldest is downtown with his girlfriend. her mom works
at the dept of interior so they were planning on watching
the fireworks from there. they were all moved up to the
second floor by park police to make way for those herded
in from the mall. he was not too happy. :(
Severe weather will probably stay out of Montgomery Co.;Taxes too high.
Thanks for checking in!
We’re going to be heading out shortly for the Chincoteague fireworks, but we plan on staying on this side of the causeway, no way do I want to try and get off that island afterwards........
good plan! bet the traffic would be a real mess. :(
we’re staying home, out of the weather and humidity. :)
Yeap they go celebrate their freedom by going through 40 checkpoints. sigh. Glad I had the pleasure pre-9/11.
Apropos of nothing..sorry.. have you heard about Michael Jackson possibly buying an estate at St. Michaels? :/
We did it once, it took us close to 4 hours to get home....we were only about 22 miles from home.

Nah, they'll probably just pass an ordinance against the weather. The libs there think they can influence the laws of physics with "compassionate" legislation.
No, hadn’t heard that..........I bet Tony Snow won’t be happy to hear it though, that’s where he lives.
Thankfully I’m more than 2 hours from there :)
oh geez! that’s ridiculous!
xsteen went downtown to the Mall with her friends, but didn’t leave until the storm was over. xsboy is going with his crew to Falls Church. i don’t care for fireworks, nor does xsbrownie, so we are happy to be home. We did have to eat out at our fave local place though, bc the storm mitigated against grilling. so we will have steak and chicken and corn on the cob tomorrow. : )
are you watching the show? Who was that last performer that sang America The Beautiful? the guy from American Idol? It was fabulous!
