My dad got his wings from Corpus in ‘42, but as a flight instructor, trained many a new pilot at Pensacola.....including ADM James Stockdale.
Sad that the base is closing. My father was a flight instructor there during WWII, and then shipped to the original FDR Carrier as a fighter pilot.

I have four pairs! Of course, they changed the design when I was going through bootcamp in ‘88. I actually saw my shipmates being handed the old designs and then those farther down the line got the just as effective BCD tortoiseshell design.
Thanks for the ping, Vroom!
Post or FReepmail me if you wish to be enlisted in or discharged from the Navair Pinglist.
This is a medium volume pinglist.
The base isn’t closing, only AOCS; Aviation Officer Candidate School, is.
AOCS Battalion One graduated Dec 14 1984 (age 30—mustang)
The secret to survival—just make it to the next meal and make it to lights out, one day at a time.
USNA son starting second class year this fall. Has BCD glasses and will never forget that! Hopes to get eye surgery so he doesn’t have to worry about contacts anymore.
Sad to hear this. AOCS was a good program and many good officers got their start there. Fair Winds.
Yes, my dad too!
Rhode Island????
What the hell are they thinking? You’ll surely get no cost savings there. This smells like a political project to me.
Class 20-68.
I propose a private group to create an AOCS museum. Private funds only. The memorabilia and fittings of Pensacola AOCS will surely be lost or destroyed unless we do something to save them.
I was class 0468. Who was your sargeant. I had Roofus “J” Washington.
