Mexican billionaire wants a Cup race
It may be NASCAR’s good fortune - the man behind this sport’s Mexico City gambit, Carlos Slim Helu, may be the richest man in the world, even richer than Bill Gates, according Mexican financial figures who peg his telecom-based fortune at nearly $68 billion. Microsoft’s Gates is figured to be worth $59 billion. Helu’s fortune would be nearly 10 percent of Mexico’s entire GDP. Helu has been pushing NASCAR’s France family to turn the Mexico City Busch tour stop into a Nextel Cup tour stop. — Winston-Salem Journal

Harvick not a fan of spec engines
Kevin Harvick says the possibility of NASCAR going to spec engines doesn’t excite him. “The spec motor would be the sorriest thing we could do to racing,” Harvick said. “I’ve talked to some of the guys that have run the spec motor. Most of us depend on our manufacturers
and our manufacturer (General Motors) is not necessarily interested in spec engine racing. “From what I’ve heard from some of the guys who have tested is there’s not a whole lot of technique. There are things that you can do to help the cost
but if you want to make it a spec’ series, it would probably wind up like the IROC and out of business.” — Winston-Salem Journal
Go to Radio Shack and get one of these (or something similar) to hook up yer cable box to the confuser purple cable. Then you can cap any channel on the box.

NASCAR boss: Dale can petition for No.8
NASCAR CEO Brian France, asked by Chris Myers if Dale Earnhardt Jr. will have a problem getting his No.8 transferred from DEI to Hendrick: “We assign the numbers year in and year out, we typically would not take a number away from a team that is running it, that would be of course DEI. We haven’t heard there plans on what they wanted to do with the 8, should they not have plans and Dale wanted to use the number, he certainly could petition us and we would consider it.” — Fox Sports Radio
