“Can you imagine the championship perhaps being hinged on a RP track??? Yark”
______________________________________________________

Question born of ignorance, is NASCAR still gonna run RP races with the COT?

Yes in fact Dega’s race later this year will be COT and next year all races COT.

Sort of the difference between an F-16 and a B-52

I understand about Talladega later this year and that the COT is THE car for next year and beyond, but I thought that the COT was already slower than the un-plated COYY. I thought I heard the race announcers saying that the Busch Series cars were faster than the COT a few weeks back. (although that may have been just at that particular track)
I’ve been under the impression that the COT would not need a plate to keep the speeds down.

Oops I didn’t see this post, but Jr’s been in the 8 from 2000. That’s 8 when he fiishes this year.

I must have missed the one year Hillin drove the 8, not consecutively and only 5 races that year [1982] at the age of 18.

Anyway it’s too early in the morning. :)

Oh sorry I misundertood.

I guess that will depend on how fast the teams can get this thing to go. My guess is if it’s like 180 or so they would consider no restrictor plate.

I did find this...........

Despite new technology in auto racing — and much to the dismay of fans and drivers who contend restrictor plates have removed the racy-ness from Talladega and Daytona — NASCAR still hasn’t found a way to remove the plates. Short of building a smaller engine — which had been proposed as part of the Car of Tomorrow (COT) package but was dismissed because it would add to the huge expense of building the COT — restrictor plates won’t come off cars at Daytona or Talladega anytime soon.

Speed on the track comes primarily from horsepower, aerodynamics, tires and the track surface. The high banks and long straightaways of Daytona and Talladega allow cars to increase speeds dramatically. Some claim that without plates, cars could race in excess of 225 mph.

"Doesn’t Coke have Dale Jr. as one of its drivers?"

No he's not part of the Coke family.

Thanks, that was the answer I was looking for....although not necessarily the one I wanted to hear....:(
I think a comparison of the speed of the plated COT and Busch series cars may prove interesting when they both run on RP tracks on the same weekend.

Kahne says he won’t leave for DEI, other organization

By David Newton
ESPN.com

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Kasey Kahne denied on Thursday a report that he would leave Evernham Motorsports after this season and move to Dale Earnhardt Inc. or another Nextel Cup organization.

“I’ve had plenty of different teams calling to talk to me because we’re running bad,” said Kahne, who is 26th in points a year after making the championship chase and winning a series-high six races. “I haven’t talked to any other teams.

“I have never once talked to another team owner. It’s just another reporter putting something out there with no facts. It’s not true,” he said.

Interesting page here on transcripts from the veteran retired drivers from yesterday. I don’t have time to read it now, but they are all there. Pearson, Allison, Baker, Petty, Foyt, Andretti.

It’s almost time for news people to take to the skies and see if anyone in Texas is building an ark.
