MOSCOW (AFP) - Russia issued a veiled threat Wednesday to deploy rocket units in the Kaliningrad exclave near Poland if Washington does not draw back from its missile defence plans in central Europe.

"If our offers are accepted, Russia will not believe it necessary to deploy new rocket units in the European part of the country, including in Kaliningrad," Russia's First Deputy Prime Minister Sergei Ivanov was quoted by Russian news agencies as saying.

I think this is about money.

The Russians must rake in the bucks selling missile technology to all our enemies.

If we deploy a system that can effectively counter their missiles, they may not sell so many missiles.

But, yes, he is still a Commie.

Exactly why Vlad the Inhaler unveiled his so called stealth missile recently. He needs to sell weapons to Iran that he can claim will defeat our missile defense. I think this latest rhetoric stems from Iranian skepticism.

Putty is a salesman of the year for Locheed Martin.

First, he created demand. He offered bases in Azerbaijan and Southern Russia to monitor Iran. This effectivelly exposed what Polish/Czech facilities were meant for - to attack Russia, not to monitor North Korea and Iran.

Now, when the situation is clear, Russian response will follow. And there will be American counter-response. and a lot of business for American companies. Putty will bring a lot of jobs in ole U.S. of A.

Russia trying to play chicken with the U.S. and Poland. I respect the Poles enormously, and would have no problem is the U.S. signed a mutual self-defense treaty with them.

This is a breach of the CFE treaty http://www.dod.mil/acq/acic/treaties/acfe/index.htm

But I guess that the New Soviet Union has scrapped it a long time ago;

What are you talking about? Where did you get this mad idea about attacking Russia? Do you have access to secret CIA files, or may be Condoleezza Rice whispered it in your ear in private? Your whole statement is either dubious conjecture or inartificial provocation.
By the way, an alleged first strike purpose of ABM in Eastern Europe is a favorite argument against its construction used by both Russian government and US leftists. Are you with them on this matter?

It is not allerged but very sensible. ABM in Europe maybe used as the supplemental of the first strike to fend off the weakered russian response on such attack.

First of all, can you define what US leftists you have in mind? Neocons are leftists in disguise, with Trotskyst roots. And it gives me the creeps -Leftists bend reality and facts to suit their agenda. They "ignore the law of gravity" and suffer from the consequences. That's their nature.

It took a dedication of a lifetime (Ronald Reagan) and his brilliant bluff (SDI) to break down communism. Soviet leaders acted predictably, did the calculations and figured out that Soviet economy can not do it. They panicked, attempted to fix the rotten engine with perestroyka, put hard pressure on Comecon countries, but it predictably fell apart.

This was the result of conservative thinking. Measure, plan, execute, reap the results.

Neocon mindset believes that it is possible to win the first strike and incapacitate Russia's response. This is a difference from conservative thinking. They believe. They dream.

There is one thing Neocons have no clue about - geopolitics. They can not comprehend why it was wrong for Soviet Union to rely on subs and ballistic missiles, and why it is wrong for U.S. to rely on land encirclement of Russia.

This is serious matter, because the error in judgement can be fatal.

Let's say that it is possible to incapacitate Russia's ability to counter-attack with a surprise first strike, and eliminate few that manage to be launched with Polish-based ABMs.

The question is - what if it is not?

"The Ogarkov plan" was the result of leftist thinking and it crushed Soviet Union.

Neocons try to implement Ogarkov plan of their own, while Putty imitates Reagan. Read about Reagan's SDI offer to Soviet Union and see where Putty got idea to offer bases in Russia to the U.S.

Hope that you now understand my concern. This is serious stuff.

Condi is fine pianist, but she is lousy player of geopolitic chess. Her mindless support to Islamofascists in Kosovo shows that.

Thanks for you post. I’m surprised to read stuff like that here on FR, but it definitely makes a lot of sense.

Russia actually makes a relatively small amount of money from their arms sales to Iran. They don’t do it to make money, but as part of a global anti-American strategy. They support all of our enemies around the world. Russia is the evil behind the Axis of Evil.

Excellent article on Russian arms sales here http://search.japantimes.co.jp/cgi-bin/eo20070602a1.html
BTW you’ll get no argument on the evil of Vlad Putin, but the evil oozing out of the Fascist Muslims is the same one we thought we eliminated 62 years ago.
