I doubt seriously anyone here fails to face the relationship of our unemployment rate with need for additional labor. However, what is certifiable is the idea we need to amnesty some 12-20 million illegals to ensure we have sufficient low-end labor to keep the engines turning.
We have as a nation utilized various legal and managed guest worker programs for these purposes. Turn the labor shortage over to companies like Kelly Services on both sides of the border; let American companies requisition the necessary numbers and categories of workers they need and have the staffing agencies locate, hire and provide the labor. When the need is satisfied, they are returned to their country of origin or the next job. It’s really not rocket science.
That wont work ( nothing will) until we get rid of DemonRat socialism.
They will never go back and once they learn they can make as much by doing nothing they will join the urban leeches on welfare.
Raising wages for “the jobs Americans wont do” doesn’t work either. It adds nothing but costs.
Anyone willing to work hard to get ahead has already done that and lazy people just demand higher welfare when wages go up.
We have to raise the work ethic and let the market sort out those willing to work to raise their standard of living.
End welfare and free school lunches and all the rest of the socialist liberal BS and you will see those jobs filled.
That's the Neal Boortz solution also.
Could work.
This is an idea, but to replace 12 million workers would take time, effort and enabling legislation. The time and effort are easily possible, but the legislation for this idea is not. The Democrats won't stand for it. So now what? If this can be done without additional legislation, do it.. and become the next Bill Gates.
Given that the unemployment rate is about 4.5% as measured and reported by the government I doubt that we have a very good idea of who is out of work. We surely don't know how many are under employed, part time employed, or have given up on being employed.
We certainly don't know how many of the 20 million are even on the books. We don't know how many would flock to Tyson if there were no illegals undercutting their wages - or if Tyson paid a decent wage in the first place. Plus, I seriously doubt that chicken packing houses and handy man services account for a crucial piece of the GNP.
Apart from that, I really like the cross-border commercial labor clearing house idea for vetted seasonal workers and for some low-end labor so long as recruiting efforts can be proved to have been tried and failed. (Of course, there's always automation...)
Personally, I believe GWB made this promise years and years ago and has received support from typically non-Republican special interests as a result...Texas does have a huge mexican population, much undocumented, to pander to. He's had to be somewhat laid back on it since 9/11 and is pushing now, and tomorrow, because he is running out of time to pay back.
