Haim G. Ginott's quote from Teacher and Child: A Book for Parents and Teachers (Haim G. Ginott):
Dear Teachers:
I am a survivor of a concentration camp. My eyes saw what no person should witness. Gas chambers built by learned engineers. Children poisoned by educated physicians. Infants killed by trained nurses. Women and babies shot and burned by high school and college graduates.
So I am suspicious of education. My request is: help your students become more human. Your efforts must never produce learned monsters, skilled psychopaths, or educated Eichmanns. Reading, writing, and arithmetic are important only if they serve to make our children more human.
Haim G. Ginott
On Laura Ingraham’s show today, Bill Bennet quoted Kate O’Bierne quoting this today...
Next thing you know the “Jews” will be killing Mickey Mouse on some children’s educational tv show...
This person has confused education with ideology. Education didn’t create the holocaust. Following the NAZI creed did. We don’t need our schools do to anything but create great learned citizens. It is our Religious affiliations that create the morals.
This is nothing more than more liberal social construct gobbledey gook. Education simply allows a person to function at a higher level. If the goal is to ensure that no one functions at a level that harms another person, then abortion is for you because it can’t be done. Social engineering is an oxymoron. People eventually realize they have been duped.
To me, it sounds like a warning about how education can be used for indoctrination and that is what parents should guard against.
Given how many of our public schools are now teaching even the youngest childrent that homosexual deviancy is “normal”, I’d say this is very good advice.
...and that guns are evil. Don’t forget that.
You are so wrong, on so many levels.
Education is defined as ... A program of instruction of a specified kind or level.
You cannot have schools that teach a curriculum in a moral vacuum and not educate monsters. Either a curriculum is a moral curriculum, or it is not. The absence of morality in a curriculum is teaching amorality.
Morals and ethics must be firmly implanted at the same time as skills/tools to either create great works or enable great harm.
That’s why this country and Western Civilization worked and produced great things for so long - we all believed and lived the Judeo-Christian ethic.
Absent the Judeo-Christian ethic, we have the mystical cult of Naziism, the “god is the state” of Marx, Mao and Lenin, and the “kill the unbeliever” cult of Islamics.
My kids were so much fun because they were well-behaved. They were polite and respectful children because Dr. Haim Ginott taught me how to teach them. God bless this fine man who died so very young. I wonder what he would say about Farfour, the Jew killing Mickey Mouse of Palestine...
Someone grabbed me away from a term paper one evening to go hear a speaker... how boring... but it was a good high school/hometown pal.... who said I should hear this guy.....
Soooo I got to hear Haim Ginott... fascinating views on child-rearing and teaching values to children....
"Between Parent and Child" has a common-sense approach and sound Biblical basis of parenting
WARNING:
--His work flies in the face of Dr. Spock's psycho-drivel.... (Which has ruined many a youngster's childhood -- IMHO).
You want a “great learned citizen”? Then do it yourself and stop looking for gov’t to do it for you. That is Dr. Ginott’s message, always.
Sounds like he’s saying that “educated” people can get really full of their own smartness, and are gullible to stupid ideas like radical genocide. Only an education with a moral component can temper this.
Dr. Ginott’s main point...teaching the parent to be strong.
I look at these “Nanny Fix-It” shows, and I am appalled. I never needed a Nanny because I always realized that I was the ONE AND ONLY when it came to...morals, ethics, personal habits, mealtime, bedtime, treats and rewards, punishments, and parenting. Dr. Haim Ginott gave that to me, and I am so thrilled that he is finally recognized (even if it is just a single thread on FR). Any Mom could relate to this:
>>I drove my three kids, my 9 yr. old brother, and my 9 yr. old cousin to the resort town of Misquamicut, RI for a night of good food and great entertainment. We had been going there all summer (1981) and were firmly part of the “Friday Night Beach Scene”. Dodge’m cars, rollerskating, outdoor concerts, you name it! and it was there that summer. My daughter was 7 yrs. old, my older son was 5 yrs. old, and the baby in the car-seat was 3 yrs. old, so just picture the mayhem inside that car! I pulled over once, and told them if they did not behave, we would not be enjoying our Miscquatmicut Friday Night. They agreed. And promptly reneged, as children do. I drove another 25 mins. and reached the main drag of that town. I drove up, and I drove through, and then I headed home. No fun, no lobster, no rides. They didn’t listen. They didn’t believe. One of Dr. Ginott’s major stands is that parents shouldn’t talk more than once. He says that children need to believe in parents, and that is where I took my lesson. I loved him for that! I did it, and it worked. Took my kids, my brother, and all my cousins there for years after and never one single problem(word had spread!) Now, my kids do the driving with their kids and they all have copies of Dr. Ginott’s books! That’s my Dr. Ginott story that changed everything, I didn’t need to be humiliated on TV, or send my children to Kiddie Kamps. I did it myself with the advice of this fine doctor.<<
Heard him speak when I lived in Cleveland many years ago. He was fantastic and so funny.
Your children are not your friends...
You are not their friend...
You are their parent!!
After they are grown you can be their friend!!
(Paraphrase)
Actually if you attended over 70% of the universities in the USA and viewed the profs, and what they were propagandizing, you might think that there is education and then there is ideological education. Europe is filled with such rot and so is the USA. What is worse, it is in our high schools and one can see that by reading the curricula in the 50 states. BTW, I have been teaching for 45 years and now consider myself the lone conservative in my college dept.
