"..My decision to commute his prison sentence leaves in place a harsh punishment for Mr. Libby. The reputation he gained through his years of public service and professional work in the legal community is forever damaged. His wife and young children have also suffered immensely. He will remain on probation. The significant fines imposed by the judge will remain in effect. The consequences of his felony conviction on his former life as a lawyer, public servant, and private citizen will be long-lasting...."

Sure does not look like any pardon will come! I have to finally conclude that the President of the United States is an ungrateful piece of crap and the commutation is gutless act to appease what is left of the GOP base. I voted for him twice. Against my crime against the Republic I offer in my defense Al Gore and John Kerry. That Scooter Libby does not go to Jail is the only good in this I can credit Bush for.

The President did this so Mr. Libby could clear his name in the appeal. You didn’t read anything, did you? Scooter was probably asked which he preferred.

He can commute his sentence now and give Libby a chance to win on appeal then as he’s walking out the door give him the full pardon if Libby’s appeals don’t look promising.

Actually, this is better than a pardon. A full pardon makes him look guilty with no opportunity to prove innocence through an appeal.

Libby has his defense fund and probably a fair amount of money through it to date. The court shouldn’t be able to resurrect a jail term, so Libby should never be able to go to prison at this point (if my understanding is correct). Bush still looks like he’s following the letter of the law and isn’t playing favorites too much.

This is a win-win for all and the best possible outcome at this moment.

you would be wrong .The details tell the story. Bush was nice to the jury, the verdict and communted time Libby was lawful to do......Now think appeals........In fact think Nifong. The president has access to the best legal minds alive and knows what Fitz did and did not do.

We will know soon, and with Libby doing it,getting his good name back, the road was just paved......

Know who knows this the most ? Andrea Mitchell and Tim Russert who lied in court.....
