Castro: US is still a 'killing machine'

HAVANA - Fidel Castro said Sunday that the U.S. government continues to be a "killing machine" after revelations that nearly 50 years ago it tried to use American mobsters to kill him with poison pills.

"The empire has created a real killing machine made up not only of the CIA and its methods," the Cuban leader wrote in the latest of his nearly daily essays, published Sunday in the Communist Youth newspaper Juventud Rebelde.

President Bush "has constructed powerful and expensive superstructures of intelligence ... that lead to war, injustice, hunger and death everywhere on the planet," Castro wrote.

CIA documents made public last week described the agency's recruitment of a former FBI agent in August 1960 to use mobsters and poison pills to kill Castro. Information about the plot was among hundreds of pages of CIA internal reports, known as "the family jewels."

The plan was scrapped after the failed CIA-sponsored Bay of Pigs invasion of Cuba in April 1961, and U.S. authorities retrieved the poison pills.

The 80-year-old Castro has not been seen in public in almost a year since handing power to a provisional government headed by his younger brother while he recovers from intestinal surgery.

Communist Cuba's parliament on Friday unanimously approved a resolution saying that the 47-year-old plot to assassinate Castro still reflects the reality of U.S. policy toward the island.

"The conduct of the Bush government clearly shows its intention to keep employing the worst possible tactics against Cuba," it declared.

U.S. law has forbidden official assassination attempts since the administration of Gerald Ford in the mid-1970s, and Washington denies it has tried to kill Castro since then.

According to newly declassified CIA papers released Tuesday, June 26, 2007, the CIA recruited a former FBI agent to approach two of America's most-wanted mobsters and gave them poison pills meant for Fidel Castro during his first year in power. Contained amid hundreds of pages of CIA internal reports collectively known as 'the family jewels,' the official confirmation of the 1960 plot against Castro was certain to be welcomed by communist authorities as more proof of their longstanding claims that the United States wants Castro dead. We could send a smartbomb to wherever Fidel is, especially to an open air appearance, and it would be over in 10 minutes.

Yea, Fidel, I remember the nukes you aimed at me and my family back in the 60’s; and the day you are gone, I and a whole bunch of people will celebrate!

No, Castro’s correct. We have the capability of killing very, very large numbers of people very dead, very quickly.

What sets us apart from the totalitarian filth of the world like (ahem) Fidel Castro, the other Communists, the Islamonazis, the kleptocracies like Mugabe, the kleptocracy + nutcakes like Hugo Chavez, and so on:

We were historically, and for the most part still are, a God-fearing people with a highly developed sense of morals and character. We understand and strongly believe in right and wrong, in good and evil.

We are nothing less than the most successful nation that has ever lived by God’s grace on His earth. From the point of view of moral character, as well as material success.

It is so @#$%^&* frustrating that those of low moral character within our own country (read: liberals) can’t fathom this.

It is frustrating, but not unexpected, that a moral degenerate like Castro doesn’t understand it.

Exactly. It is really quite unbelievable how idiotic his statements are on this matter. Of course, Hugh Chavez uses the same script.
