Chertoff: We can't really enforce laws on illegals

Homeland Security chief Michael Chertoff is blasting the U.S. Senate for failing to pass an immigration bill, and claims the federal government doesn't have the ability to enforce laws when it comes to illegals working in America.

"We're going to continue to enforce the law. It's going to be tough," Michael Chertoff said. "We don't really have the ability to enforce the law with respect to illegal work in this country in a way that's truly effective."

I suspect that Chertoff is right that we cannot completely enforce the law against illegals. There are simply too many to catch. That doesn’t mean you don’t try, however.

I recall the story of the man on the beach, walking along and throwing starfish back into the ocean, saving them. Another man came from the opposite direction and pointed out the thousands of starfish on the beach and said, “You’ll never make a difference. There are too many starfish.” The first man replied, “I can make a difference for this one, and this one, and this one.” Same goes for illegal immigration laws. We cannot catch them all, but those we can catch and return, we should.

The headline is misleading (lying).
Still, this guy is a jerk and should be fired.

If Chertoff really believes this, he should resign and let someone else enforce the law.

Really - I don't have a law enforcement background and I can figure this out:

1) Anytime an illegal is discovered by a local police force, have the illegal detained.
2) Put the detained illegals on a bus and drive them to the other side of the border and make them get off the bus.
3) Build a secure fence so they can't come creeping back in.

Is that really so hard to figure out?

Would it really be that hard to actually do?

I don't think so - if Chertoff can't do it - give me the job and I'll do it.

I’m listening to Laura Ingraham and she played a sound bite where he said we can’t build a wall in any short term. It will take years.

I remind the fool and his few supporters that the Alcan Highway (which I am currently driving) was built in EIGHT months. Three thousand + miles in 8 months.

Also during WWII, mostly women workers were cranking out liberty ships on a daily basis. WE CAN DO ANYTHING, if we try.

I'm gonna walk into my boss' office this morning, and say, "Boss, I can't do my job."

I figure I'll be home in time for lunch.

I am unclear on exactly what useful purpose he serves. He doesnt seem to do much other than travel around making excuses why they cannot do something.

So it’s come to this. Run up the white flag and surrender to chaos because fighting it is too hard?
Can’t enforce the immigration laws- so do away with them. Become the world’s first borderless country? Do away with the name USA altogether, because it will just be North America.

Following this gutless logic we should eliminate laws against murder and robbery and all other crimes because they STILL occur despite the laws against them, right?
Wonder if he would mind his local police department thinking the same way when it comes to enforcing the laws protecting him from daily crime? After all, it goes on all around him regardless.

This is really interesting...Our government will not secure the border. So what do WE do? At what point in time do we have to do it ourselves?

>>I think anyone who claims they cannot do their job better make a shopping list of what they need and get after it, or resign and let someone else do what they can/will not.<<

Chertoff’s Shopping List:

1) Pass the Amnesty Bill
2) etc.

Chertoff is still LYING. He means he won't enforce the laws, not can't. He's a REPUBLIWONT,NOT A REPUBLICANT.

(did you notice his makeover? He is wearing Al Gore's foundation left over from the 2000 debates so that he isn't so pale.

Yes - the Minuteman project was fabulous. I’m thinking perhaps an ex vet with an M16 every 3 miles...that should do it.
