Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich says he'll give his final answer on tossing his hat in the Presidential ring by Oct. 1, but Texas Republican Tom DeLay is not so sure the potential candidate packs the gear, according to a report in the Washingrton Post
"He's a dynamic person that can rally a lot of intellectual firepower around him. He has a new idea every five seconds," said the former House Majority Leader, who is fighting charges of campaign law violations.
"But I think when people take a look at what he's really saying, he's going to have a hard time with conservatives. He's trying to appeal to everyone and cover up who he really is -- which is typical of Newt," DeLay added.
DeLay noted Gingrich's recent warm interaction with Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., during their debate about global warming.
"He's not in sync with the base of the party," DeLay charged. "Take his whole American Solutions idea. I'm very skeptical about finding solutions for government. Government is the problem, not the solution."

It's hardly a secret that DeLay and Gingrich don't like each other, but DeLay makes a lot of good points here.

DeLay pushed more big government spending through the Republican controlled Congress than was ever done in the history of man.

I don’t like the Newt-bashing. Coming from DeLay — although I considered him an excellent House leader — it has especially little credibility.

Gingrich has taken some odd positions lately.
I know which one I’d rather lead me in battle

I think we need Newt with the leadership of the RNC. Wouldn’t you take Newt over Mel in a heartbeat?

I’d take just about anyone over Mel.

Many of the Republicans in office now are out of sync with the Party. Perhaps most of them are.

There's an energy about him that was always appealing--he was never ashamed to be a conservative and never ashamed of ideas. History may not give him credit, but the "contract with America" was a phenom of a success.
No, I don't want him as president. But I'd like him in office, again.

What about President Regan’s rule,”thall shalt not speak badly of another republican at any time”
What I see is a bunch of people trying to play one upsman ship on each other, at the party’s expense!

The more the both of them stay out of the headlines, the better off we’ll be. Especially Delay. No, especially Newt. Aw, why don’t they both just back off. We don’t need to be struck by lightning any more and that’s what the both of them cause to happen.

I can’t recall that we ever had a President Regan.

What about President Regans rule, thall shalt not speak badly of another republican at any time You mean the Ronald Reagan who was the ONLY Republican in history to challenge an incumbent Republican president for the Republican presidential nomination? Because I distinctly remember Reagan challenging Ford for the nomination in 1976 because he thought that Ford was too liberal.

I don not mean this as a criticism, it is just an observation, Newt is an incredible organizer and behind-the-scenes leader, but I do not think that he has the personality to be the “face of the GOP.”

After hearing his comments on the Senate failure to pass the Immigration Bill, I sent Martinez an e-mail calling for him to back full enforcement of the laws currently on the books or step down as Republican Chairman.
Actually, the guy is totally out of sync with the base, and should step down regardless!!

I haven't been keeping tabs on Gingrich, but frankly I don't care if a man is "out of sync" with a party or not. It's more important to me that he is "in sync" with conservatism and the wishes of the American public.
As our nation continues along the path to socialism, the GOP grows increasingly irrelevant.
