A purse is best, but here it has to be concealed and not visible if someone sees in your purse. Get a small zipper bag similar to a cosmetic bag to put your pistol in inside your purse. Leave the zipper about half closed with the open area where the pistol handle is so it’s easy to access if you need it. When out shopping and reach in for money, etc., no one can see the gun.

I’m sure the great ladies on the forum will be more than able to help you. Best of luck, become proficient and we hope to God you never need to use your personal protection for anything other than paper targets!

Oh, and by the way.

If you are going to invest in the responsibility of concealed carry, please take some advanced classes. Teachers like Gabe Suarez and Massad Ayoob offer weekend classes all around the country.

They can teach you the skills to both survive an armed encounter and the legal aftermath as well.

Well, since you said you wear dresses and conservative women as a class are universally hotties, the James Bond lead-in comes to mind for your backup derringer. You know, the shapley leg in the black stocking with the garter? :)

Steady there, Laz.

For you continuing education, I would suggest attending International Defensive Pistol Association shooting matches. They are a lot of fun and you don’t have to compete to pick up pointers. There are a lot of ladies who attend and they can help you with advice and suggestions.

I live in Texas and it is hot. Rarely do I wear a coat that would conceal my carry weapon. I have opted for bag that looks like a camera bag. However, the inside has a “rig” that will holster your weapon. It also has several zippered compartments to put other things in. If a man is carrying it people think it is a camera bag. If a woman is carrying it they think it is her purse. It also has a quick opening cord to make it quick and easy to get your weapon.

The best advice I can give is go to a gun store and try several different holsters and the bag. Buy what feels right.

The most important advice I can give is go to the range and practice practice and practice some more.

Most people who start carrying CCW end up with a variety of holsters. The options for women are somewhat more limited than for men. You may need to alter your wardrobe somewhat to accomodate your self defense.

If you choose to carry your defensive weapon in a purse, I highly recommend that it be a purse designed for the purpose.

There are a number of books available about Women and self defense with a firearm. The name Paxton Quigley comes to mind. You may also wish to read about various CCW carry methods. There are several available. I would also suggest that you read “In the Gravest Extreme” by Massad Ayoob.

I meant to say there are several *books* available on concealed carry options. Amazon.com lists some if you do a search for Paxton or “The Concealed Handgun Manual”.
