Which is one of the reasons I've always preferred going to Gettysburg in the middle of the winter. You practically have the battlefields to yourself. No crowds, no traffic.

I go very year (except this year) about one week before the anniversary. Also, I go during the week to avoid crowds.
I like for the weather conditions to be as close as possible to what the soldiers experienced.
Of course, I’m only an hour away so I can go on a spur of the moment.
