Coming up with a counterfeit-proof system of identification will threaten that liberty. Be careful what you wish for, you may get it.

Yep. The National ID Card. The politico's have been pushing for it for decades now, but for very different reasons. I heard Senator Hatch -R-UT, say as much on Hannity's show just a couple of days ago.....

For many years now, it has become increasingly easy to get any fraudulent document you might want and can pay for. A complete package of passport, green card, SS card and birth certificate cost only $1000 ten years ago. It's now a huge business selling fake IDs and the gummint is unable or unwilling or both to find a way to stop it.

IMHO, a national ID card that would be practically impossible to counterfeit would be a step in the right direction, but many people, including many Freepers, think that it would curtail our freedoms and allow the gummint to track us more easily. They don't need a national ID card to track us. They already do it now, so what's the problem? The SS, the IRS, the military, political parties and even large businesses track us all all the time. It's time to give a real ID card to all who can prove they are legally here and deport the rest.

“Sadly, it appears we are moving toward policies like a national ID that diminish our liberties. Like gun control, these approaches only punish the innocent, as criminals will always find a way around the law.”

Say what you will about Ron Paul, he nailed that one.
