For Immediate Release Office of the Press Secretary Contact: 202-282-8010
We have been in close contact with our counterparts in the U.K. regarding todays incident at the Glasgow airport and yesterdays car bomb discoveries in London. Our law enforcement and intelligence officials are closely monitoring the ongoing investigations. The senior leadership of the U.S. government has been meeting on these issues both yesterday and today. DHS and the FBI have provided updates and protective measures guidance to our state and local homeland security and law enforcement partners.
At this point, I have seen no specific, credible information suggesting that this latest incident is connected to a threat to the homeland. We have no plans at this time to change the national threat level, although we remind everyone that the aviation threat level has been raised to orange since last fall.
However, in an abundance of caution during this holiday period, DHS will be implementing plans to increase our security measures at U.S. airports, mass transit and other transportation facilities. Some of these measures will be visible; others will not. As always, airline passengers should arrive at the airport with sufficient time for security clearance. We encourage the public to go about their business and recreational plans as usual, but remain vigilant to the events happening in your environment and report any suspicious activities to authorities.

Wow, he must’ve recycled THAT line from his Amnesty Position Paper.
At this point, I have seen no specific, credible information suggesting that Chertoff is “credible”. On ANY topic.
Exactly, and his pie hole will be on all the Sunday morning news shows saying the same old.
Aint it great? our own baghdad bob.
Homeland Security desrves Chertoff, this administration has been lucky not competent...soon they will be gone!
“A terrorist attack here is simply a question of time.”
Hopefully any terrorists here will be as inept at making bombs as the ones in Britain appear to have been. Their devices were incendiary with little if any explosive punch.
I say you are right.
I’d love to have his job. I’d show that Americans have the fortitude to be tough on preserving our freedoms and that we are the best country in the world—even when whiners (aka Katrina victims) say we’re horribly slow and unresponsive! I would have given them 8 months to get a new location and get a new job which is 5 more than it’s taken me to do before!
I’m SO tired of the poor me people who have not taken advantage of what America has to offer. Start giving back what our soldiers are fighting for!
Chertoff, why don’t you do what’s best for the country and step down? The only person in the United States more incompetent than you is Jimmy Carter. Step down so we can get someone who knows how to lead and isn’t afraid to step on toes.
Homeland Security is responsible for the security of my family, my friends and my neighbors. Stop being PC and do your job.
I would at least TRY to do it.
It’s just so convenient that his name rhymes with jerkoff - makes it easier to remember.
