Brownback Writes of 'Hatred' of Clintons

Brownback Writes of 'Hatred' of Clintons Jun 29 05:08 PM US/Eastern By SAM HANANEL Associated Press Writer WASHINGTON (AP) - Sam Brownback says he harbored a "hatred" of Bill and Hillary Rodham Clinton until he experienced a religious awakening in the mid-1990s.

Brownback, a Republican presidential hopeful, details in a new book how the change in outlook led him to make a stunning apology to Hillary Clinton a few years later during a Senate prayer breakfast.

"I was considering what I should say when I confronted all the anger that I held for the Clintons," the Kansas senator writes in the book, "From Power to Purpose: A Remarkable Journey of Faith and Compassion."

"I thought, I hate them for what they are doing to the country and I feel justified in hating them for it," he writes.

But Brownback says he realized there is never justification for hating someone regardless of what their actions.

He told the prayer breakfast audience that he used to have a "hatred for Bill and Hillary" because of their politics. He spotted Sen. Clinton in the crowd and, speaking directly to her, said he "realized that those thoughts of hatred were wrong. I apologized to her for them. I don't know what she thought, but I believe it made a difference."

Religion permeates nearly every corner of Brownback's book, written with Jim Nelson Black and officially slated for release July 3. His soul searching began in 1995, hastened by two dramatic events in his personal life. His marriage was in real trouble—he was "on track" to getting divorced—as he devoted all his energy to the conservative agenda that fueled the Republican takeover of the House in 1994.

Brownback is a self-righteous prig and a fool.

I beg to differ.

You are not supposed to look directly into her eyes.
She now has possession of his soul.

I appreciate his sentiments but his actions were misguided, IMHO. Apologizing to Satan would only stoke her fires to destroy the rest of the country that her husband wasn’t taking down in his two terms.

Don’t hate Hitler, or Stalin, or Osama. No matter how much they want to put a blade to the throat of Americans or their own citizens who don’t agree with them. < /sarcasm >

Brownback, a former Republican presidential hopeful, voted for jorge's amnesty and then changed his vote.

I haven’t gotten over my intense dislike, distrust, revulsion and enmity I feel for that particular couple. They’re liars, thieves, panderers, abusers and loony liberals... it may take a while.

“His soul searching began in 1995...”

It would be a fair question as to whether he’s stilll searching,
given his actions yesterday.

So he screws up again, by not distinguishing between the sin and the sinner. That is, much of what the Clintons did and do deserves to be hated, and without remorse of any kind. But that does not mean that they, as people, should be hated.

They should be pitied. In prison. Like other criminals.

Defective units. People without conscience or remorse.

That is not to be hated, only pitied. Though than in no way means that they should ever be afforded an opportunity to hurt others again.

If Hillary Clinton apologized to George Bush for harboring hatred, would you see it as a good or bad thing?

The level of humility Brownback showed is something that is lacking in Congress. Apologizing directly to someone is one of the hardest things to do, especially when apologies are viewed as weakness in political circles. At the heart of conservatism lies the ability to keep those types of nonproductive emotions in check while making policy decisions.

Indeed, merely for apologizing for feeling hatred, Brownback has already been attacked by Freepers.

Is this the Brownback who had officially recorded two contradictory votes in yesterday's Cloture vote on Shamnesty?

Why yes, yes I believe it is. Buh Bye, loser.

Seems he has caught the idiotic “turn the other cheek” crap that Bush has. Which is OK as long as you are not in any position of power. It’s a mean and nasty world and we need tough people to handle really nasty enemies. I’d personally prefer not to be represented by the likes of Bush or Brownback. They think they can change evil to good by being good to evil. That just does not work.

Always keep a mirror with you at all times. If she sees the empty reflection indicating her total lack of a soul and conscience, she will be shrewed, I mean screwed.
