Lawyer: Ex-Astronaut Didn't Wear Diaper

Orlando, Fla. (AP) -- An attorney for a former astronaut wanted to set the record straight Friday: Lisa Nowak didn't wear diapers during the 950-mile road trip to confront a romantic rival.

"The biggest lie in this preposterous tale that has been told is that my client drove from Houston, Texas, to Orlando, Florida, nonstop, wearing a diaper," Donald Lykkebak said after filing motions to suppress evidence in Nowak's criminal case. "That is an absolute fabrication."

The tidbit that Nowak wore diapers during her trip was written in the police report filed after Nowak's arrest in February. The diaper detail became fodder for late-night TV comics and talk radio and even inspired an episode of the NBC show "Law & Order."

There were toddler-size diapers in her car when she was arrested, but they were several years old, Lykkebak said. Nowak and her family had used them when Houston was evacuated in 2005 during Hurricane Rita, he said.

Lykkebak didn't say why he waited until now to dispute the police report.

An Orlando police spokeswoman, Sgt. Barb Jones, said she couldn't comment about the case specifically. She said a court would determine the accuracy of the facts.

Is this supposed to make her appear any less insane?
“Yeah sure he robbed the banks and kidnapped the tellers but he drove with his shoes on. He never once took his shoes off, that part of the story is untrue.”

Actually I thought the Depends thing was just about the only part of the story that made any sense. They use those things when they’re in periods of space flight where they can’t relieve themselves using the facilities.

So the nutjob actually stopped to take a squirt while driving 1/3 of the way across the country where she planned to confront, kidnap and possibly murder her co-worker and rival for the affections of her boyfriend for whom she dumped her family.
Yeah, removing the diaper portion really makes the rest of the story sound rational. I hope she’s not paying her lawyers that much.

This is such a sad story. This woman has a teenaged son and little twin daughters. How awful that all her hard work, her education and training is now just a joke for the late night TV. I really hope Ms. Nowak gets the help she needs and can rebuild her life.

When I think of all the sympathy that LowLife Anna Nicole got and how people were making prayer chains for her...what did AN Drug Addict ever accomplish besides snagging a billionaire?

You’d think an astronaut would be sufficiently ordered in her private life to not be carrying toddler diapers in her car for years.
