the technology used in the Mercedes bomb was the same as that used by insurgents in Iraq.

Except for the commonly-used "tech" of a cell phone as a remote detonator, I think this is just flat out untrue. IED's in Iraq are ~not~ bottles of gasoline, they're mostly leftover artillery shells and mines. There's just very little in common at all.

They are talking about car / truck bombs

Agree with you: I did note that there was no mention of a high order explosive being involved. A vapor bomb is definately dangerous, but generally less so than an IED composed of artillary shells or other High explosives. I wonder what they’re not telling us in the news reports.
