The United States creates 1.5 to 2 million jobs every year, but without immigrants -- legal and illegal -- we'd have a hard time filling all those jobs. The sensible way to solve that problem would be to create a market-based legal immigration system that would increase the number of persons admitted when job creation justified it and decrease the number when unemployment rose.

So, Linda, just how would a bill that gives 12 or 15 or 20 or 30 million or more illegal aliens permanent visas address this?

If your bill was so important, your puppets in the senate would not have:

  1. Negotiated it in smoky back rooms where La Raza was well represented but the American middle class was not.
  2. Insisted that the starting point was that we accept 12 or 15 or 20 or 30 million or more illegal aliens without regard to their suitability for contributing to-- or at least not damaging-- this country. IOW, the same test we have for legal immigrants.
  3. Voted down a mild-mannered amendment from Sen. Coryn of Texas to exclude gang banger, felons and those with terrorist ties from Z-Visa eligibility.
  4. Given illegal aliens priority over aspiring legal immigrants (some of whom have been waiting for years!) to get visas, citizenship, jobs and collect social security.
  5. Offered more empty promises in return for amnesty now, promises which still haven't been kept from the 1986 amnesty bill.

In short, Linda, I cannot understand why Mexico is so bad that millions risk their lives to leave. Nor can I accept that Mexico is so great that we want to turn this nation into a larger version of the same.

Just how many people from Mexico or anywhere else do you think America will be able to help if we allow ourselves to be dragged down to their level?

May I add to “If your bill was so important” Why the failure to do any legitimate cost/benefit analysis in this major bill...negotiated it in smoky back rooms where La Raza was well represented but the American middle class was not.

Insisted that the starting point was that we accept 12 or 15 or 20 or 30 million or more illegal aliens without regard to their suitability for contributing to— or at least not damaging— this country. IOW, the same test we have for legal immigrants.
