This story is strange... it would have been much busier on a Fri/Sat night when all three levels of Tiger Tiger are packed, and the lines to get in run around the block.

(Yes, I have been there, and know folks in London who still do)

What would compare to the area the bomb was found? Times Square in NYC?

Friday night there is much busier.

So is saturday.

Thurday is slower, its when more city workers go out, as well as those who work in the bars and clubs have their “weekend”.

So I’m still curious why this happened on a slower day.

12.15pm update
“London car bomb ‘could have killed many’”

Hugh Muir, Sandra Laville and Mark Tran
Friday June 29, 2007
Guardian Unlimited

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “A bomb made from gas cylinders, petrol and nails was found in an abandoned car in central London today, sparking a major terrorism alert.

Peter Clarke, the Scotland Yard deputy assistant police commissioner, said the device, in one the capital’s main nightlife districts, could have killed or injured many people.”

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “Prof Clarke said it was almost certain the bomb had been meant to go off today.

“If it’s a more sophisticated Jihadi plot, there might be other devices,” he added. “What will be worrying the security services at the moment is whether this is just the tip of a bigger plot.””

Yup, I had thought along those lines too.... wondering if they were trying to get assets in place still, and how may other devices are out there.

I would imagine the local security services must be asking themselves some of the same questions.

They have hours of video footage to sift through today - Loads of work!

“British Police Defuse Bomb in London”
June 29, 2007 - 7:26am

By DAVID STRINGER
Associated Press Writer

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “LONDON (AP) - Police thwarted an apparent terror attack Friday, discovering a parked silver Mercedes that was packed with gas containers and a large number of nails. The attack would have caused “significant injury or loss of life,” police said.

A British security official told The Associated Press that there were similarities between the device and vehicle bombs used by insurgents in Iraq.

“Forensic staff are still examining the device, but once we know more about it, we’ll know more about what type of individuals are behind this,” said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the security details.

The official said Britain’s domestic spy agency MI5 also would examine possible connections between Friday’s incident and at least two similar foiled plots _ including a planned attack on a West End nightclub in 2004 and a thwarted attempt to use limousines packed with gas canisters to attack targets in London and New York.”

Its not unusual to have much more than that in that place, as well has a huge line waiting outside the premises to get in on a Fri/Sat night.

UK police had “no advance intelligence” of London bomb
Watch out: there could be more. From Bloomberg:

``The police did not have any advance intelligence of this which is worrying,’’ said Paul Wilkinson, chairman of the Centre for the Study of Terrorism and Political Violence at St. Andrew’s University in Scotland. ``They will be concerned there might be other devices in the area or elsewhere in central London because if it is al-Qaeda one of their characteristics is to set off coordinated devices.’’

Add to that, this might have been a secondary device, triggered only after an incident such as a fight or a shooting gathered a large crowd of police, emergency workers, and onlookers.

I just checked my may. I am not sure exactly were Tiger Tiger was but it Hayward leads N to Piccadilly Sq. It leads S to Trafalgar Sq. (it is about two block from Trafalgar Sq.

60 liters of gas in the bomb, that is one big bomb.

What the Democrats and RINOS can’t seem to figure out, is that we would have had several 9/11 attacks here in the U.S. if President Bush and our troops had not gone after terrorists worldwide. Iraq is the central battle in the war on terror.
