June 28, 2007 - For the past few months, Sen. Chuck Hagel, Republican of Nebraska, has flirted with the idea of running for president as an antiwar Republican. Now, however, that platform is threatening Hagels standing within his own state and party.
In a race that has received scant national attention, Jon Bruning, Nebraskas 38-year-old Republican attorney general, is challenging Hagels bid for re-election to the Senate--by attacking him from the right. Bruning charges that Hagels stance on Iraq, as well as his criticism of the president and members of his cabinet (see: Alberto Gonzales), put the incumbent out of touch with the majority of Nebraskans.
Nebraska is more conservative than the nation as a whole, Bruning told NEWSWEEK. Senator Hagel, however, has become more liberal. And for some reason he has an anger to George Bush that is not particularly productive.
How substantive a threat does Bruning pose? No reliable independent sounding has yet been taken. According to a poll recently commissioned by Brunings office, he finds himself 9 percentage points ahead of Hagel in a head-to-head contest. A study undertaken by Nebraskas Democratic Party has Hagels positive rating at 51 percent compared to Brunings 61.

Just when I think that I have had enough, a Republican that I want to send money to - Bruning.
I can’t vote for Bruning but I can send money.
It’s received “scant national attention” because the MSM can’t stand to report it.
One down, hopefully.
Beat the RHINOS in the primaries !
Beat McCain, beat Graham !
beat Specter! We came oh-so-tantalizingly close the last time
GOPHER BAROQUE, for sure!
I can’t either but if his politics are correct I will send him money.
Let's do it!
I want to see Hagel and Specter evicted from office.
We had a chance to get rid of Specter...the Bush team rushed in to save him.
