WASHINGTON, (AP) -- For years he was known as chief of staff to Vice President Dick Cheney and assistant to President Bush. On Wednesday, I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby became federal inmate No. 28301-016.

Libby, who was convicted in March of lying and obstructing an investigation into the leak of a CIA operative's identity, faces 2 1/2 years in prison.

Now, all Pres. Bush has to do is commute the sentence to time served.

Unfortunately, he can’t/won’t do that until after the election next year. But he’ll surely do it after that.

So, Mr President, where’s that pardon for your Vice President’s loyal former staff member?

This is disgusting. We have millions of invaders to this country who steal identities, make fake IDs, over fill our schools, overwhelm our ERs (and we REWARD them) and yet a citizen of this country goes to jail for something this stupid.

Amazing.

So he’s going to let Scooter rot in prison until January 2009?

When confronted by prosecutors and FBI agents, however, Libby lied about how he learned about Plame and whom he told, a jury found.

An important lesson, never tell under oath what you think you recall, without adding the qualifier, 'to the best of my knowledge at this time' or 'unless my memory fails me, this is what I recall'. Or you can just say 'I'm sorry, I cannot remember and I do not want to lie, so I cannot answer you'. Then they can never get to you later for supposedly lying.

Bush wanted amnesty for the false document illegals. He won’t give amnesty for one of his own people who was railroaded in a political prosecution.

He won’t do it.

This President seems to be able to do nothing right. He should take a page out of the book of Costanza and do the exact opposite of everything his instinct tells him to do.

He would probably see a bump in the approval ratings.

Republicans should never, ever say anything under oathe anymore. Plead the 5th, let the chips fall where they may. America may not be better served doing so, but at least you don’t incriminate yourself.

I have always wondered why a lawyer of Libby's caliber didn't know that or get that advice.

Remember Oliver North's boffo performance before the committee? He had his notebook right in front of him so he could make sure everything he testified to was correct and had written backup, but, of course, grand jury witnesses almost never have that option.

It’s probably a way to vent his spite against conservatives.

Oh, he does a few things right.

He stood up for our troops just a couple of weeks ago against the Dem and media onslaught.

Short-sightedness makes people forget quickly.

I think all presidential and vice presidential employees deserve a full and complete amnesty. Amnesty for Libby, has a nice ring to it.
