My memory is some what short these days, at one time I could tell you alot about the crypt. The sarcophagus is wrapped in Seaweed and upheld by the tails of dolphins . The vault itself is a cobalt blue stone and gives the illusion of being under the sea.
It is quite beautiful and has a sense of serenity about it.
If your ever in the neighborhood it sure is worth the time to have a look see.
BTW..
JPJ lived out his later years in Paris and he coffin was not found until 1906 ( I believe ),it was escorted home by a squadron of US warships, it was then placed in the Crypt in Annapolis MD

...coffin was not found until 1906...
This is true. I read a very interesting story in Smithsonian magazine about this. Apparently, during renovations to a dilapidated neighborhood in Paris, an old cemetary was found. One of the graves contained a lead lined coffin which was labeled John Paul Jones. The coffin was opened, it had been filled with alcohol and the body of Jones was well preserved. I can’t remember for sure, but I believe photographs were taken of the body before re-internment at Annapolis.
