I strongly disagree! We can still save this country but we must first inform ourselves and STOP VOTING FOR THE GUY WITH THE MOST MONEY!

So true. In fact, the Declaration of Independence spells this out:
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”
The PURSUIT, not the outcome.

Something that has been obviously forgotten, as the Amnesty Bill slugfest just showed us.

Term Limits in the Senate FIRST. then in every elected position in government at all levels.
Eliminate special interest campaign funding—don’t know how but money is the root of all evil.
It started LONG before that my friend! In fact, the effort was underway from the very beginning of this greatest freedom experiment in human history.
1) Vote in good leadership. Help Duncan Hunter to get elected by doing research on who would provide donations to his campaign and then advertise so he gets the funds to further promote himself. We all have the lists of all the Senators who voted for amnesty, vote the bad eggs out. Same with Congress because this bill will go before them in August. Since the Congress is run by rats, it will likely pass. Vote the bad eggs out also. Build a site and run ads to the public on the issue. I have a site called RagingDebate.com but unfortunately, not enough funds to really put such information such as immigration in front of the American people and lists of bad eggs to vote out.
The visionaries must connect with the money people on this effort and money people that invest for the benefit of others are hard to find. So time and an organized effort must begin in earnest now.
2) Define and promote our national security issues:
Open Border
Iran
China
Oil
These issues are intertwined and if not addressed, we will come back together again before our Republic collapses, but it will be at the expense of millions of American lives.
Part of what "conservatism" is - and one of the reasons I joined the conservative movement - is the willingness to accept the realities and truths of the world. These realities and truths are not always pleasant, and - indeed - can often be in grating conflict with popular assumptions, contemporary mores and widely-taught doctrines.
Civilization springs from culture. And culture springs from race. Unpleasant truths, of course, particulary if you espouse them in "mixed, multicultural-indoctrinated" company. Why do you think the left is pushing "multi"-culturalism upon us so unrelentingly? And why - at the heart of their efforts - does there lie a hatred for all things "white 'n' western"?
The key documents of "western civilization" (and American culture and "the American Dream") are our Declaration of Independence, our Constitution, and our Bill of Rights. Of these documents, what was the national origin and the "skin color" of those who debated and wrote them, and hammered out the foundations of this nation for its first century?
They were overwhelmingly Euro-American males, of course. THAT's where our "American Dream" and our "civilization" came from.
Michael Savage (who I have NEVER listened to, I don't even know what the sound of his voice is like) was on-target. And so was the Freeper to whom your quote above was intended.

I agree and have similar faith. How I think our nation is corrected however will be reaping what we sow. We allow our enemies in to pour through the border and continue funding them through oil money or corporate greed then those enemies will attack us. Such an event will likely be nuclear terrorism, the crash of our financial system and then and only THEN will the people left and right re-unite under the banner of what is righteous, destroy our enemies and rebuild our culture with prior values of our forefathers.
What you said is one of the things that makes America unique.
When people get their American citizenship, they become Americans. They call themselves (or at least, should) Americans. And other Americans, even those that came over on the Mayflower, view them as Americans.
There are very, very few places in the world where this is the case. If I went to India and got my citizenship as an Indian, that would not make me an Indian. If I told other Indians that I was an Indian, they might smile and be polite, but they would think it was preposterous.
Being American is a state of mind.
I didn’t mean to say that Duncan Hunter is a bad communicator. And, I’m not into jokes, etc either. The problem is he just doesn’t have a forum at this point. We can vote for him in the primaries, but how do we get him some exposure so that lots of others will vote for him too? I support him and think he is our best hope. Can we organize something here on FR? Contribute money to him, get his name out there to the general public? Are you into something like that? Like I said, I think he is our best hope.
This thread ought to become the longest in FR history but it's not looking good so far.
I recently wrote an essay of my own, entitled The Unraveling of America, that pretty much reflects the same regrettably sad observations that MacKinnon does here. MacKinnon is requesting solutions ('Can we save the United States from its rapidly approaching demise?') I dont know that there are any solutions not realistic ones anyway.
And that incredibly sad fact is basically due to the fact that the majority of Americans simply dont care. The sense of responsibility (the responsibility to see that we are informed about our roots, to see that we understand the integral part that each of us needs to play in maintaining our liberties and our national sovereignty and the responsibility to pass those qualities on to our children) that was once an innate and irrevocable part of citizenship has eroded beyond the ability to identify it.
Without that sense of citizen responsibility, a free societys days are numbered. And, once it is lost, I dont know how it can be reclaimed.
Post-9/11, there was a flicker of reclamation, but it was never fanned into a flame. Too many diversionary tactics continually mounted by the mainstream media, Hollywood, and academia. And we allowed ourselves to slip back into our apathetic stupor once again before the year was out.
While driving to an out-of-state appointment the other day, my husband and I were listening to what passes for the on-the-hour five minute news report on one of the major (ABC?) affiliates. On that particular day, two sentences were devoted to the fact that the last remaining survivor of the raising of the flag on Iwo Jima had passed away. I was so stunned by the brevity and flippant nature of the report that I literally counted the number of sentences devoted to the next story. It was the story of the imminent release of Paris Hilton from jail. And it merited eight full sentences of coverage four times more than the death of an esteemed member of our greatest generation.
My husband and I looked at each other, and, without a word being said, simply shook our heads in unspoken agreement that the contents of that five-minute news segment represented a microcosm of the bread and circuses death knell that the mainstream media is foisting upon the citizenry, each succeeding generation of which knows and appreciates the real America less and less than the one that went before.
None of what ails us from the threat of international terrorism, to the nightmare of illegal immigration, to the unprecedented power of the unelected, unaccountable mainstream media, to the Marxist influence in public education, to the corrupting power of special interest groups, to the purposeful, premeditated destruction of the best healthcare system the world has ever known -- none of those gargantuan problems could continue to exist if we as a people began to re-value the attendant individual responsibilities that come with being a citizen of a free country: namely being educated and informed, seeking and respecting truth, and demanding accountability from our leadership.
As a nation of free men, we are chosing to die by suicide, because no malevolent force, from within or outside of our borders, can do us as much harm as our own indifference.

Individual liberty and individual responsibility are inextricably linked. You simply CANNOT have one without the other!
