Venezuela's Chavez seen wanting office "for life"
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/06/26/AR2007062601909_pf.html ^ | Tuesday, June 26, 2007; 8:37 PM | Bernd Debusmann,

Insecurity, "malignant narcissism" and the need for adulation are driving Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez's confrontation with the United States, according to a new psychological profile.

Eventually, these personality traits are likely to compel Chavez to declare himself Venezuela's president for life, said Dr. Jerrold Post, who has just completed the profile for the U.S. Air Force.

Chavez won elections for a third term last December. Since then he has stepped up his anti-American rhetoric, vowed to accelerate a march towards "21st Century socialism" and suggested that he intends to stay in power until 2021 -- a decade beyond his present term.

"He views himself as a savior, as the very embodiment of Venezuela," Post said in an interview.

"He has been acting increasingly messianic and so he is likely to either get the constitution rewritten to allow for additional terms or eventually declare himself president-for-life."

"To keep his followers engaged, he must continue outrageous and inflammatory attacks," Post said.

Chavez has called U.S. President George W. Bush a "donkey," U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice an "illiterate," former Mexican President Vicente Fox a "lapdog of imperialism" and Peruvian President Alan Garcia a "rotten thief" and a "crybaby."

In his assessment, one of the character traits that drive Chavez is "malignant narcissism," a term that denotes an extreme sense of self-importance and is usually coupled with extreme sensitivity to criticism.

I hope he does get office for life. I also hope his stay in office is a short one.

I believe he is hoping this will grant him immunity. Much like a bogus sexual harrassment suit grants workers immunity.

U.S. bad, me good... don’t you people see that!

“Insecurity, “malignant narcissism” and the need for adulation are driving Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez’s confrontation with the United States, according to a new psychological profile.”

Gee, I had him profiled as a power hungry madman with a lust for power and money, who is willing to starve his entire nation for that ability.

Oh wait, that is Hillary. Nevermind...

Thanks for posting this analysis, BenLurkin, but it does not mention any territorial ambitions he might have or that might accompany such a personality type. I think he wants to enlarge Venezuela to include parts of neighboring countries, particularly Colombia.

We have an ally in Colombian President Uribe who is bringing the FARC (Communists/drug dealers) to heal by killing some and getting others to surrender. Colombia’s economy is growing, Venezuela’s is (I strongly suspect) tanking due to the nationalizations, etc., under Presidente Chavez.

It isn’t just Chavez against the US, he has local hate-points too.

An interesting read.

“Both are rank socialists, to be sure.”

Neither are Socialists. Do not fall for that. They are thieves that use Socialism as a tool to steal from the people.

Name me a Socialist who actually gave back to the people all that was taken from the rich? All these lefties we are talking about in the US Senate, have given nothing back to the people in 45 years.

Meanwhile they get fat and feed their lawyer and lobby buddies. Cross the line, you get DeLay’d. RINO’s are seeing this and want their turn at the trough at our expense.

True. I was using the modern vernacular of socialist - a thieving, lying control freak.

The way we are going the first thing that came to my mind was substitute the headlines from Chavez to Clinton.
