Giuliani Gets a Standing Ovation At a Christian College

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Mayor Giuliani's battle to win over social conservatives in the Republican Party may not be the impossible task that many political pundits have predicted.

That certainly appeared to be the case yesterday at Regent University, the Christian college founded by evangelist Pat Robertson, where Mr. Giuliani's message of leadership and strength on terrorism met with a standing ovation.

In a 30-minute address to more than 650 students and business leaders, Mr. Giuliani never uttered the word abortion, nor did he make any other direct reference to the social issues on which his moderate positions are largely out of step with the Republican base. When he listed some of the "12 commitments" at the center of his presidential bid, he omitted the one promising to "reduce abortions."

Instead, he stuck to what has become his campaign's mantra — plugging his record as mayor, pledging to prosecute the war on terrorism aggressively, and offering a none too subtle reminder of his role following the attacks of September 11, 2001.

I see ol' Judy Ruliani (otherwise known as the scumbag liberal RINO (former) mayor of a Blue state Peoples Republic (a virtual Nanny/Police State) is spewing forth more of his B.S. (leadership, blah blah blah, terrorism, blah blah blah, look at what I did in nyc, blah, blah, blah...) in his campaign of misdirection and obfuscation.

He is nothing more than a left-wing maggot who's REAL claim to fame (in his liberal demonRAT and RINO supporters eyes) is supporting the gay agenda, supporting the wholesale slaughter of the innocent unborn, and pushing ever increasing and unending gun control.

He is a sack-of-shiite RINO and has NO place running for REPUBLICAN POTUS.

Even his fellow scumbag liberal buddy, the current mayor gloomberg, at least had the common courtesy to change his party affiliation to "I" (no matter that the "I", in his case, stands for gun-grabbing IDIOT).

I wouldn’t read too much into this. The same audience would probably be just as polite to anyone who spoke at the school.

Not a big deal. Most of the people there wwere local Rudy supporters, not students. The Rudy supporters would give him a standing ovation if he’d belch the ABC’s.

Big deal, he got a “standing ovation” at a Christian college (isn’t that the polite thing to do, even if you disagee with someone..?) It’s not as if they were signing up to join his camp.

I doubt that Guiliani gets much real support among Christian primary Rep voters..

I respect Freepers that disagree with some of Rudy’s positions. I don’t agree with all of them. However, I respect Rudy for what he is. If he is the nominee, I will vote for him. I do not think your post does much to bring Rudy down.

Finally, a civil and sensible post. I will support the Republican nominee regardless of who he is. If it happens to be Thompson, who is not my first choice, I will vote for him, but I don’t think anyone apart from Rudy has a chance of defeating Her Heinous..especially if Bloomberg runs as an independent. All the Republican wannabes have decent credentials. Too bad we couldn’t clone a composite candidate!

'Nuff said. I imagine St. Rudy's 'bomb 'em all' foreign policy fits rather well with what Pat's college teaches

Looks like a newbie doesn’t agree with your opinion of RinoRudy.
Will that ruin your day?

I saw a poll which showed that he is the leading candidate among evangelicals. I hope that is simply because most people who are not political junkies do not know he is pro-choice.

I was at a Giuliani fundraiser last night. I haven’t committed to a candidate, but I had an opportunity to hear what Giuliani had to say.

Frankly, I agreed with almost all he had to say, and I have pretty typical views among freepers. His answer on the Israel/Palestine situation made sense. He said we should try propping up Abbas to see if he’ll stop the the terrorism, although he said that has only about a 35 percent chance of working. More importantly, he also said we needed to cut off aid to Gaza and isolate Hamas. I liked the answer because it was very nuanced, admitted that the situation was complicated, and no plan had a guarantee of working.

His answer about immigration was “first, build the fence and seal the border.” He then said that once we seal the border, we can look into legalizing some of those who are here illegally, provided they are worthy additions to the country. I would prefer deporting all the illegal aliens, but I don’t see that as a likely plan regardless of who is president. Giuliani at least got the biggest point right of sealing the border.

Yes, unfortunately we can’t take the best features from each candidate. All I know is that when I watch the Democrats on TV, I see NOTHING that I like. When I watch the GOP candidates, I see much that I like.

One-note Rudy exploiting 9/11 again for his political gain.

Roody's constant repetition that he was mayor of NYC on 9/11 is basically the same as four years ago when sKerry couldn't make a speech without saying he was in Vietnam.

"He is a sack-of-shiite RINO and has NO place running for REPUBLICAN POTUS."

I don't know about that so much anymore - here lately I've 'bout come to grips the GOP is FUBAR and is hopelessly and helplessly adrift in a world of its own and RINO Giuliani as its bannerboy is befitting its finale.
