,i>Again-there was almost no opposition to social security reform on the right, and he eventually caved.

Please, Bush had a Pubbie congress when he proposed it, he didn't cave.

You all were cheering such people as tom tancredo, who could care less about social security reform. He shouted about how America was dying because those evil business owners were hiring people named Jose.

With friends like tancredo, who needs enemies.

OK-so if "he didn't cave" (your words)-why don't we have Social Security reform? Who killed it and what happened to GW expending all that political capital he had after the 2004 elections?

Sorry, the truth of the matter is that he has fought a whole lot harder against his conservative base on amnesty than he ever did with his base on social security reform.

You won't find any posts from me cheering for Tancredo or anyone else on this issue until relatively recently. Actually it was a post on Ace of Spades HQ blog that posed this question in exactly these terms (Bush's support of Amnesty vs. Social Security reform) that got me thinking about this issue. I really don't understand what his priorities are anymore.
