I am getting DAMN tired of always hearing well the other guy was worse! Bush’s problems, for the most part, are of his own making. I have no sympathy for him.

Well, there is an easy way out that I keep hammering border bots on.
Advocate for the candidate of your choice in 2008. Its not that far away and I would certainly rather have Duncan Hunter than Hillary Clinton.
I simply do not agree with committing political suicide to make a point to the Republican party. There is plenty of time to influence the primary process toward stricter border enforcement.
hating Bush just gets people like me mad and I will happily mess with people who are fixated on bashing the President.

You know nothing of our military or doctrine. The entire point is to be as unequal as possible, to utterly overwhelm the enemy.

Ah...yes. Look who we have here. It is Dane - looks like he is taking a break from supplying water, food and other amenties to the nation’s new “citizens” at the southern border.
Welcome back, Dane. Without your frequent pro-criminal posts and your blatant open borders lobbying, FR was becoming a boring (and saner) place.

I would urge you to review the Supreme Court opinions that have come down in the past two years.
You have no idea what you are bashing when you say it has made no difference.
Iraq would already be armed to the teeth and aligned with Iran to kill us all if Kerry were President.
The economy would already be suffocating under tax cut repeal and tax increases and universal health care.
Its blind political self indulgence that makes you and your pals spew this nonsense.

If this were true they would stay in Mexico.
This statement shows just how profoundly ignorant you are of the situation. By and large (there are exceptions to every generality), they come to this country for one thing only -- money. The money that they earn and the free government benefits that they get. Health care, education, you name it.
Still generalizing, they believe that the only thing that makes America better than Mexico is that we have more money, and that we got that money by stealing it from Mexico, that Mexico is poor because America stole their lands and their wealth. In fact, when they come to Texas or other parts of the southwest, they don't even think that they have come to America. They think that they are truly still in Mexico because we stole this land from them (Aztlan) and that they are just taking it back back by moving in (Reconquista).
They think that Mexico, its culture and values, are superior in almost every respect and cling to that culture and values, and reject American culture and values. Generally speaking, of course.

Careful now, you're going to P.O. my inner lesbian and we'll really have a good ole hair pulling fight.

Does it really matter who wins or loses anymore? We supposedly "won" in 2000 and 2004, and look what its gotten us. As he/she writes from a keyboard and information system that was not conceiveable 20 years ago.
Oh BTW, are you starving in your miserable existance also.
Probably not, but what the hey it feels so good to whine 24/7.

By the way, along with raping and killing everyone they see in America, illegal immigrants also fight in our armed forces overseas protecting America. I hope you're not suggesting that they're all the same individuals.
You've identified the one group for whom I would make an exception. The only exception.
Anyone willing to put his life on the line to earn the blessings of liberty and freedom (as opposed to welfare, social programs and "frebies") can be forgiven what is presently a simple misdemeanor.
That narrows the existing illegal population down to around 11,995,000 give or take.

Right. A few weeks ago, I considered Bush the second-worst President in my lifetime (next to Carter), due to his bumbling mismanagement of Iraq, Katrina, support of McCain’s anti-free-speech amendment, etc..
Now, with his arrogrant “little people be damned, I’m gonna get what I want” attitude toward the immigration bill, I consider him *worse* than Carter.
To: lonestar67
Whether they are kind to their madre and padre back home has little to do with the issue at hand.
Fact is, a fair amount of America’s problems could be solved simply by having fewer people here. Our infrastructure is at a breaking point.
The ones who should go are the ones who have no right to be here in the first place.
To: firehat
As a long time supporter of President Bush.....I can honestly say I think he is really starting to suck big time. His dragging on of the Iraq affair, the unwillingness to do anything substantial regarding Iran and the coming nuclear blackmail/terrorism and this DAMNED AMNESTY bill with our open boarders really PISSES ME OFF!
King Bush the Spineless Duffus has to go soon!

I absolutely do distinguish the moral character of these two groups but it is such distinctions that I hope to retain in this debate.
There are illegals who have made supportive moral decisions. That ought to be the goal in the end.

Should he be taking his eye off the ball now when we are in the most critical period of the WOT in trying to defeat Al-Queda with the surge?
America's soveriegnty is "the ball." If Bush cannot handle both and has to choose, he should shut down the WOT and trying to defeat Al Queda. But I think that a competent president with the right priorities should be able to do both.

I want immigrants to come to the USA. We will need them to fund our idiotic social service budget. Somebody is going to have to pay taxes when the baby boom retires.
I want them to be LEGAL immigrants. We’ll deal with those that are here, but I don’t want to give them z-visas that must be issued in 24 hours, that can be renewed indefinitely, that can allow them cross border travel.
I want the border closed NOW. I want serious enforcement and deportation of the immigrants that do not register and seek the path of citizenship. I want those that have overstayed their visas deported and put on a list so they are never allowed entrance again.

To: lonestar67
I very much admire President Bush. His work reflects a far greater intelligence than that shown by his detractors.
True, but that's no great task (joking).
To be critical of the President is completely understandable and no doubt correct, since no statesman is perfect. To fail to see that this president has stood on principle on virtually every issue, and has thought through even those issues one disagrees with him on, is to fall into the sort of sweeping knee-jerk attack that is typical of leftists rather than conservatives.
The fact is, President Bush has held the line on taxes, on protecting the unborn, on the war on terror, etc., etc., etc., out of principle, forethought and conviction. President Bush could have easily coasted, popularity-wise, on the success of Afghanistan and left Iraq to his successor. President Bush could have pulled an Arnold and gained numerous plaudits from the press for compromising with Democrats on taxes, stem cells, etc.
He hasn't.
The fact is, on immigration President Bush not compromising with Democrats--- he is acting on the same principles he ran on, and that he employed as Governor. I agree he is wrong on this issue, but, (contra Dawkins)it is really is possible to be wrong on one issue (or even more than one--- imagine that!) without being ignorant, stupid, insane or wicked.
