My main to issues this time are War on Terror and Illegal immigration. Thompson is good on both issues, What does he want to do in the WOT? What is his position on Iran? Any answers?
Does he want to build a wall? Virtual? Actual?
re WOT - other than admitting he doesn't have access to all the info available to the Prez - so can't sensibly comment on specifics (nice that he isn't willing to pull a Jack Kennedy campaigning on a "Missile Gap" that wasn't - but being classified couldn't be refuted) - he generally comes across as more hawkish than most. i.e. more willing to consider military action sooner - putting a shorter leash on "diplomacy" - "resolve this diplomatically OR ELSE" and really meaning the "OR ELSE" part. This is somewhat subjective opining on my part, but I think he came closest to saying such outright at his recent remarks in London at the Policy Exchange.
re Immigration - he's been pretty forthright: Enforce the existing laws (employment, etc) and secure the border FIRST, THEN we'll talk about what to do with those who stayed anyway. He's also been quite willing to expand LEGAL immigration. He's also been pretty clear that there is a long history of fences - real fences - and they work and are a pretty cheap way to secure a border - so I think it's safe to say he isn't enamored of a "virtual" fence (shades of McNamara !! what a joke that idea was in Vietnam)
