I politely informed the staff person that I wasn't sure that I'd be around in 2008 (financially and volunteer-wise) if the Senator votes for cloture. You sound like a reasoned and polite person. I don't think I would have been so tempered. Unfortunately Clinton and Schumer are my representative, so I haven't bothered to call.

Unfortunately Clinton and Schumer are my representative, so I haven't bothered to call.Me too. It's annoying but the fact is that, here in New York, we have no representation in the Senate. (And my rep in the house has switched sides. He's a complete RINO now.)
I've thought about calling just so I could say I did but it would still be a waste of energy.

So call someone else. Call the White House, call the RNC. Call the sponsors of this bill and the Republican Senate Leadership. Call your representative. Call the Republican House leadership. Call the Senators who might be swayed. Just look up an address/zip/area code in their district and call them and email them.
And just to annoy their staffs, call Clinton and Schumer. At least they won't be able to claim that no one in their state objected...
Quit twiddling your thumbs and start dialing.
