St. Louis — Someone toppled more than 100 headstones at Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery over the weekend in what may be the most expensive act of vandalism at a Catholic graveyard in the St. Louis area.

"I've talked to some people, and this is possibly the worst ever, in terms of damage," said Monsignor Dennis M. Delaney, director designate of Catholic cemeteries for the Archdiocese of St. Louis.

I'm struggling to find words. What kind of monsters would do such a thing? Someone stole a beautiful flower arrangement from a beloved church member's grave a few weeks ago in a nearby cemetery, but that pales in comparison to this.

“I cannot even begin to understand the mindset of such people.”

We are not of that ilk!

It certainly is a result of postmodernism, which leads to its inevitable end — nihilism.

I don't understand people who don't understand.

These things happen all the time. There are monsters in the world - Bad People. (Also what you describe: "drunken juvenile delinquent idiots". They'll probably grow up to be mayors and cops, some of them. Others will die in the electric chair.)

People need to stop being naive. They enable these criminals and endanger innocents when they act so surprised.

well said

it is precisely the naive, street-dumb folks who are to blame for such creeps being permitted to walk the streets
