Democrats see chance to win Senate (Va)
The Washington Times ^ | 6-25-07 | Seth McLaughlin

Tricia Stall's recent Republican primary victory over Sen. Marty E. Williams in the far-flung Tidewater district is having ramifications across Virginia, with anti-tax conservatives cheering, centrist Republicans stewing and Democrats optimistic about their chances of winning the Senate.

"This creates another battleground for us," said state Sen. Robert Creigh Deeds, Bath County Democrat. "Miss Stall is a person who, at least from what she has said publicly, seems to be a pretty extreme candidate. It throws that district into play."

Even some Republicans predict Miss Stall's victory improves the Democrats' chances of taking what was thought to be a safe seat — edging them toward the four seats they need to control the Senate in the November general election, when all 140 lawmakers are up for re-election.

"Now Democrats say Miss Stall — unlike her predecessor — is too far to the right for mainstream Virginians and are quick to point out she signed a pledge with a group known as the Alliance for the Separation of School and State to support "ending government involvement in education." She also signed a no-new tax pledge and said she "will never support any legislation that infringes upon our Second Amendment rights."

I move that she for President!!

The Democrats have de facto controlled the Virginia Senate with the help of tax and spend RINOs. So if they take formal control of the upper house, Virginians won't notice much change in their pocketbooks.

I would support her for President even if she is a Dem. She can rule with a coalition of conservative republicans and blue collar democrats. Leave the liberals and RINO’s in the dust.

“Democrats had not planned to challenge Mr. Williams because he was one of the Republicans who crossed party lines”.....says it all. We are tired of RINO’s and are slowly getting rid of them.

Next, I think, will be Senator Warner.

"So if they take formal control of the upper house, Virginians won't notice much change in their pocketbooks."

Even most conservative minded folks I know here in VA, who don't closely follow politics, tend to favor democrats in local and state elections. They tend to vote republican in presidential elections because the candidates the dems nominate are always far left and metrosexual.

I’m not yet willing to make predictions on this year. I don’t have such a good track record for the last two years.

Here’s what I know:

1) Getting rid of Marty Williams is a good thing.

2) The RATS don’t have anyone lined up yet, however, they do have a big “21/51” initiative going. They’ve been bolstered by their last two statewide wins. Both flukes if you ask me. But not many people are asking.

I could see us losing the Senate this year. But the reality is, if we hold a conservative majority in the House, we probably wouldn’t see much difference. The RINOs shut out the conservatives in the Senate (Cuccinelli and Martin among a handful of others).

That’d really be a shame if after all the years of hard work in getting the GOP majority, that we lost it barely a decade later. Unfortunately, there are far too many RINOs that have made the majority only one on paper.

We only won a Senate majority here in TN in ‘04, but didn’t get to organize the body until this January, and because of the presence of one RINO (it took a courageous Democrat that voted to allow us to organize) that became an Independent a few months ago, we are tied in the body.

I felt a more moderate, Schweiker Republican, would have held the seat with ease.

I would have had no problem voting for him. Too bad I’m stuck with Mel Martinez.
