Well, duh.

I guess I knew that there was "no such country as GREAT Britain" but was simply referring to that which the former once great "British Empire" became known as collectively.

The country is, of course, England, which is also known and written and spoken about by the learned (including them) as "Great Britian," so please excuse me ....... and have a nice day.

Er no its not, the country is United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, commonly truncated to the United Kingdom or the UK. England is only one component country of the Union, the others being Scotland, Wales and Nortern Island. The Island of Great Britain as distinct from Lesser Britain, a region of France, consists of Scotland, Wales and England.

Most people in the United Kingdom describe their nation as The UK not Great Britain.
