WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Pentagon said Wednesday it has created a new Web site to help veterans who face difficulty returning to their old jobs or finding new ones after deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Michael Dominguez, principal deputy under secretary of Defense, said the program, dubbed TurboTAP, seeks to improve on its current Transition Assistance Program by letting National Guard and Reserve servicemembers get job information, build a resume online and do a job search all in one place.
In addition, veterans would be able to create a customized transition plan from military to civilian life. They also would be able to access "helpful checklists" regarding key things they should be doing after leaving the military and would have direct e-mail access to Labor Department career centers.

"TurboTAP will better meet the needs of the National Guard, Reserves and active component service members and their families because it gives them the tools to connect and access the information to meet their needs when they are ready," Dominguez told the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee.

If the VA wants a real feather in its hat they should replace at least 3/4 of its current got-gummint-jobs-for-life lazy fatazz employees and stop catering to the medical schools requirements. These 2 things alone would cut the waste by half and at least double its efficiency and timeliness of care.

This may sound stupid, but for all vets in New York city who need fast and pretty good money, may I suggest they get their hack (taxi) license. It`s a license that is pure gold. I`ve been doing it on and off now for 10 years (read my profile) and right now the market is SUPER hot, a ton of work out there, tourism is exploding.
I make anywhere from $150 to $200 (that`s CASH) per day and I work from 5am to about 2pm. It`s a job that gives you the freedom to work when you want so you can make time to go to school or look for other work in the meantime. The only drawback is currently we are experiencing pretty bad traffic problems which Bloomberg is trying to solve (he actually is if you can believe it even though he is a RINO...Well, a former RINO).
The requirements are you take three 8 hour classes, get fingerprints, the usual drug test (that everyone has to take except for our own Congress because everyone seems to think they aren`t public servants).. Then they do a background check on you, then you take a pretty ridiculous written test and you get your license within a week. It`s about $400 total.. If you need cash fast and freedom to work on other stuff, it really is the way to go. You can`t get fired, (unless you really f- up like crashing into a Hillary headquarters) you can`t get reprimanded for coming in late, you don`t have to suck up to anybody, and if a liberal spits on you, you get to kick his ass. (Yes, taxi drivers have assaulted people and still held onto their license..I almost assaulted one today matter of fact)... I just mention this because there ain`t nothing worse than being out there with no income begging for work then waiting two freggin` weeks for that first paycheck. Screw that, get that hack license and you`ll never be out of loot.

geez, I hope that’s only the tax-weasel part.....I could never do it because I’d be in prison for road-rage within a week or two of having to drive around NYC every day. Must be nice for your fares to have an english-speaker, I bet you’re a rare bird?
Well of course the end of the year tax time is hell, you basically have to save every receipt and know your deductions...It`s the other stuff that kills...For example, last tax season I paid $3k into the social security scam. That`s $3000k I will never see again when I could have put that into my mutual fund and probably added an extra zero to that $3000 by the time I am ready to retire.
By law I have to do my taxes quarterly, for every amount over $400 I make, but I don`t bother and just do it at the end of the year. And yes, I am one of a rare and getting even rarer breed of English speaking native New Yorkers. I`m a Jew and you can imagine the discusions I have with these Islamic screwballs who are moving in more and more every year into the biz. The worst being last year when I got into a heated argument with one Muslim who decided to hang up a poster in the garage blaming Jews for the gas prices and he pushed me against the wall when I nicely decided to debate him. I had every right to break his face but instead I asked him if his next move was a suicide bombing. They really hate the guts of Jews, they really do, but it`s like a black-Korean thing. Blacks hate Koreans and maybe vice versa but they keep it in check.
Oh yeah, about the road rage...You get numb to that after a while. I just drive real slow (unless I have a passenger late for work) and if someone cuts me off and even almost sends me into a pole, I just blank it out. I haven`t had an accident in 4 years, so it must work. I just let everyone pass me by. Let the other guy drive nuts.
My worst experience ever was picking up a passenger, this Russian lady in her 50` or 60`s who was late for a plane and she had to go to her hotel first to get her luggage and the traffic was just a nightmare. So she started freaking out, then started accusing me of taking the longest route to overcharge her, then started calling me names like “stupid” “moron” etc etc then she started hitting the back of the partition then hitting me on the back of the head! So I pulled over, got out, opened her door, and told her to get out and she slapped me in the face! lol! That was the worst, but it rarely happens. You just take your time and by 2pm your up $150- $200 no matter what you do.
If I had to, I would guess that you are a Professional Engineer.
If it wouldn't be a waste of a good Engineer, we'd offer you up to Manager Training School. :-)

I have a young guy working for me now.
Shortly AFTER he was hired I learned he was a former Marine.
Some time after that I learned he had been to Iraq for 2 tours.
I need more like him. He’s awesome.
