I think in the title Lauren really meant "Improbable" and it reads as a missprint at the moment.

We're making friends over there. Harry Reid is saddened, deeply saddened!

Hate to break it to US, but the minute Al Queda is vanquished, they’re back to killing Americans.

Just more good news that won't appear in the MSM. Why, we're losing and we ought to hightail it outta there! Good thing our commanders aren't listening to the doom and gloom idiots back home hankering for an American defeat. We're on the right track despite the nay-sayers' insistence the war's already lost.

“We do not kill police or army members, or call for their killing,” he said. “Al-Qaida threatened us for taking this stance. ... They began to kidnap and kill our fighters, so ... we began to fight back.”

The tide is turning

Even if that’s true, we now know who they are, what they look like, where they live, what their morale is, what their capabilities are, and myriad other important details about them.

True, but often Imporbable allies know how to use spellcheck, unlike reporters and editors in the drive-by media.

The fourth sentence performs the critically important function of conveying the basic MSM message regarding the U. S. military campaign in Iraq.
It is basically hopeless, getting worse day by day, and U. S. military is grasping at any straw in hopes of salvaging something, anything that might be portrayed as progress.
We get daily body counts of U. S. KIA, but very little, if anything, to indicate any gain that might be posited against those losses.

Out of ammo??? Remember what the naysayers in the MSM told us? Saddam's men had stashed so much arms and ammunition around the country that we'd never be able to make a dent in it. Looks like never equals four years.

Anyway... Your enemy walks into your tent, announces he's tired and out of ammo and wants to help you get one of his old allies. What do you do? Do you make the disloyal POS your new ally? Not a smart move, imo.

Here's the little poisonous hook to "frame the debate", this is an AP article, after all. After beginning with what sounds like good developments in strategy, they spring this manipulation on the reader:

And as it struggles in the raging heat and violence of central Iraq, the U.S. military appears to have bought into the tactic in its struggle to pull what victory it can from the increasingly troubled American mission in Iraq, under congressional pressure for a troop pullout and a presidential election campaign already in the minds of voters.

The MSM is cheerleading for defeat. To expect them to support the troops and their mission - now THAT would be a surprise.

I wonder if that comment was spoken when we were doing the same for the mujahideen in afghanistan. That worked out really well. This could turn out really really bad if it’s not handled right. Throughout history, this has been one of those things where it’s just a matter of time :(
