“Are you allowed to look at the 1908 McLellin collection? “

The kinderhook plates would also be a good one.

Or the 1830 and 1837 versions of the Book of Mormon, with thousands of changes.

Here are some of the changes between the 1830 and the 1837 Books of Mormon. To check out any of the changes just go to http://www.inephi.com/Search.htm and confirm it for yourself. Anyway this lists changes, some quite significant:

http://www.josephlied.com/changes.html

Here is the actual text of the 1830 Book of Mormon, to compare to the current text:

http://www.carm.org/lds/1830bom.htm

It takes more work, but the Mormons may trust the inephi site better than a christian apologetics site . . . but the verses will show the changes against current books of Mormon, and on very critical issues like the nature of Christ, his relationship with the Father, etc.

From Kinderhook Plates Brought to Joseph Smith Appear to Be a Nineteenth-Century Hoax
Joseph Smith did not make the hoped-for translation. In fact, no evidence exists that he manifested any further interest in the plates after early examination of them, although some members of the Church hoped that they would prove to be significant. But the plates never did.
You know, I had an argument with a fellow employee once where he was gong on and on about a theory of programming he had read about on the internet.

With no supporting information, he wanted to change a project that had been signed off on for three months (and was being programmed at the time). When it became apparent that he had no other "support" for his changes, I allowed acouple of co-workers to continue the "Debate" while I took my laptop and plugged into the network (wireless not being in use yet) and quickly wrote a page for a website I was keeping up on. I then posted the page, and whent over to his laptop and pulled it up. He was shocked, it completely refuted what he was saying. he was stunned. I then told him I had just written it and it was no more valid than the post he was quoting to us from, it was my opinion "in print" as it were. he was a little mad, but saw the humor in what I had done to make my point, he agreed that he needed to do more research.

After doing more research, he decided not to even bring it up again.

You can post us links to sites that say whatever yo want, but when they are created by known opponents to the church who will say anything, well, I can put up a post that has as much meaning, fortunatly, for me, I do not have to, for there is a very scholarly group that has done the work already. Joseph looked at the plates, and showed them no furthere interest until they could be "authenticated" by experts. Joseph did not try to buy the plates, even though he was told they were for sale. Conclusion, Joseph knew they were not real, but if you wnat to insist that he translated them, knock yourself out.
